The original idea the animals had about the animal farm was a good one but, as Fangda and a few other people have said, once you are in power it is hard to not take advantage (not necessarily to that extent but take advantage none the less).
In Animal Farm, other than the obvious things, there is the days when they shoot the rifle, in remembrance of the Battle of the Windmill, the formation of the rebellion, and Napoleon added his birthday into it.
