Topic: The Rifleman

In the News (Sun 20 Dec 09)

TV ACRES: Weapons > Lucas McCain's Winchester Rifle (The Rifleman)
The Rifleman's weapon was "in actuality" an 1892.44-40 Winchester carbine specially modified with a large loop and metal tab to turn his rifle into a rapid firing machine.
The Rifleman and his trusty Winchester resurfaced on the made-for-TV-movie The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw (11/3/91) where Lucas McCain (in a cameo) saved gambler Brady Hawkes (Kenny Rogers) from a group of corrupt Mexican police officer.
The original.44-40 rifle used on THE RIFLEMAN series was loaded with silver bullets and used on the WEREWOLF series to kill werewolves.

 Johnny Crawford - The Rifleman
The Rifleman was certainly one of those rare television shows that will never be forgotten.
We had the benefit of the father-son relationship, so I could have a little scene at the end of the show where I would explain to Mark, essentially, that sometimes violence is necessary, but it isn't good.
As a child, Johnny was a huge fan of westerns, and being cast as Mark McCain was a dream come true for the young actor.

Wise to the west and well-worn, the Sheriff is a close friend to the McCains and frequently shares in their adventures.
This was a dark and disturbing series; the townspeople were all a bunch of craven, dim-witted dirt farmers -- ready to form a mob at a moment's notice but unwilling to individually stand up to any hothead who happened to stroll into town that morning.

IGN Boards - I dare someone to come in here right now, and explain to me why the engineer isn't the best class
The only time a rifleman beats the engineer is at medium, unobstructed range (as in it is devoid of walls, rocks, rooms, ramps, turrets, tanks, and health/ammo droids).
The engineer's gun doesn't have the range that the rifleman does, but it does do plenty of damage, and a lot of bolts packed tightly together means a higher chance of hitting from medium distance, where the rifleman is best.
They may have to expose themselves, but if the guy comes around the corner towards the rifleman, chances are, he'll have to advantage, since you don't know exactly where he's going, and if you were close enough to throw a grenade, he'll be able to roll right around your predictable fire.

A “rifleman” - a man skilled in the use of a rifle - in France or Germany, or any other foreign country - is a defender of the state.
A rifleman knows that the ‘soft’ crisis, the time NOW when voting, letters to reps, and education of others, is the key opportunity to defend his liberties.
The rifleman will work to win the ‘soft’ crisis so that he won’t have to fight the ‘hard’ crisis, when his rifleman skills are needed and will be used.

The Rifleman: Season 03 | Plot | MTV Movies
Hoping to halt the ratings decline suffered by the ABC western series The Rifleman towards the end of its second season, the series' producers made a handful of significant changes during Season Three.
For one thing, the show was moved from its family 9PM Tuesday timeslot to 8:30 PM on the same night, thus avoiding the one-two punch of competing series Dobie Gillis and Alfred Hitchcock Presents (it was now seen opposite the second half of the hour-long NBC oater Laramie and the now-all-rerun Father Knows Best.
Unfortunately, the aforementioned "improvements" upon The Rifleman failed to do the trick ratingswise, with the series plummeting to 27th place--which, in all fairness, was largely due to the overall flagging of interest in TV westerns.

“The Rifleman” was like no western TV series we’d seen before.
Created by another western legend, Sam Peckinpah, “The Rifleman” had a menacing dark side as only Sam could give us, and the star was a man known up to then to have worn more fl hats than white.
Which is why his “Rifleman” Stetson was a bit “off white”, not totally “clean”, yet not “dirty” either.
