They weren't brothers, but Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (both born in 1941) were most definitely righteous, defining (and perhaps even inspiring) the term "blue-eyed soul" in the mid-'60s.
Yet the Righteous Brothers-Spector partnership wasn't a smooth one, and by 1966 the duo had left Philles for a lucrative deal with Verve.
It's a bit of a mystery as to why the Righteous Brothers never came close to duplicating that success during the rest of their tenure at Verve.

RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS - Pop Music Artists - Corporate Entertainment Booking
For nearly four decades, the Righteous Brothers defined the essence of "blue-eyed soul." Together and as solo artists, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield reached generations of fans with their unmistakable, heartfelt vocal style.
Medley and Hatfield first became "brothers" after both were performing on their own around their home turf in the Los Angeles suburb of Orange County.
Combined with the airplay that the original version of the song was receiving, it seemed the perfect time to reunite the Righteous Brothers as a recording act once again.

When Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (The Righteous Brothers) closed their eyes at their beginning in 1962, they clutched a rather naïve dream: They simply wanted to put a group together that was good enough to play Las Vegas lounges.
The Righteous Brothers galvanized the link between rock and rhythm and blues so convincingly that they spurred the creation of a new term, "blue-eyed soul." And their legacy is permanently recognized with their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Performing in a local bar, a Black marine in the audience shouted out after one of their duets, "That was righteous, brothers." They remembered the occasion and eventually renamed their group The Righteous Brothers for their first album.

SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Features -- Righteous Brothers put all their hearts into soul
The Righteous Brothers are the unit most frequently held up as the supreme paragons of "blue-eyed soul." Their kudos were well-earned, particularly in the early-'60s, when Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield raged and roared like a two-man Watts riot.
After that, the Righteous Brothers largely faded into the oblivion of the oldies circuit, while Medley pursued an intermittently successful solo career as a smoothed-over, adult contemporary crooner, something of a template for the Michael Boltons of the world.
Since Hatfield's passing last November, the Righteous survivor has been touring as "The Righteous Brothers: A Celebration by Bill Medley," in which he partly performs along with audio tracks and video footage of his old partner.
