Ritchie James Hill January 27, 1976 - February 23, 2004 | Hill Family   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Ritchie was about a year and a half older than me and since I came from a house with only older sisters, he did a good job teaching me the things that (usually) only an older brother can do.
Ritchie was one of the most honest and sincerely nice men that I have ever had the honor to associate with.
Ritchie was obviously trying to be big and brave and protect Stacey, well I didn't have a guy to hang on to and I was petrified so he let my hold onto his arm as well.

Interview with Dennis Ritchie, Bjarne Stroustrup, James Gosling
Ritchie: The point of C (as distinct from its immediate predecessor B) was to take a language that was designed with word-oriented machines in mind and adapt it to the newer hardware that became available, specifically the PDP-11.
Probably the oddest aspect of C compared with other languages outside its immediate family is the declaration syntax, in which (in a way coming from Fortran) a type is mentioned, then variables decorated in a way that reflects their use in expressions.
Ritchie: I've learned that this is dreadfully hard, and that people involved with successful languages can become rabidly conservative no matter what their general inclinations.

The group took its name from record producer Ritchie Rome and consisted of singers Cheryl Jacks, Cassandra Wooten, and Gwen Oliver.
The Ritchie Family next recorded the Give Me A Break LP which contained the hits "Give Me A Break" and "Never Be Able to Set You Free." Continuing with album releases, the next was a strange partnership with Jaques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi, the pair behind Change.

Deep House Page Forums: Artist of the day(3/24/04)-Ritchie Family
When the Ritchie Family surfaced in 1975 with "Brazil", which contained impressive remakes of "Peanut Vendor", "Frenesi" and the title cut, many thought they were merely newcomers who hopped aboard the disco bandwagon in pursuit of quick bucks.
Ritchie Rome created "The Ritchie Family." He and Jacques Morali arranged, co-wrote and produced the albums "Brazil," "Arabian Nights," and "Life Is Music" which defined the Ritchie Family sound.
What's amazing about this story is the fact that Ritchie Family did not have the commercial success as other dance-oriented artists of the 70's/early 80's, yet they still managed to get eight albums out of their recording career.

The Ritchie Family : Brazil - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
A little under a year before the Ritchie Family's "Best Disco in Town" stormed the nightlife, they debuted their lush disco style on 1975's Brazil.
But that mainstream introduction to the band is misleading, because they actually strike brighter sparks elsewhere on the album, both on the Motown sound of "Pinball" and on the eight-minute epic "Fenesi," which features unyielding grooves and a flute solo.
At the end of the day, the Ritchie Family are best remembered as little more than a B-movie disco band with a nice line in space-age get ups -- and, as Brazil pre-dates spacesuits, it can't even fall back on that.

The Ritchie Family : The Best Disco in Town: The Best of the Ritchie Family - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
This generous and extensive compilation covers the career of the Ritchie Family, a trio of female vocalists who were produced by Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo (best-known for the hits they crafted for the Village People).
The track selection also throws in a few recordings from the group's post-'70s period, but tracks like "All Night All Right" unfortunately forsake the group's distinctive sound in favor of a bland, synthesizer-dominated early-'80s dance style that is much less interesting to listen to.
Hardcore disco fanatics may carp that this compilation lacks the 12" recordings that made the Ritchie Family a staple at discos, but The Best Disco in Town remains a solid cross-section of the group's best recordings that will please casual listeners.

There are old songs, recorded without instrumental accompaniment or with their original flavor, there are other old songs modified to reflect the changing family and the passing seasons; there are newly composed carols — one written this very year.
This revival began in the 1950’s and was mainly due to Jean Ritchie, who brought the dulcimer to new audiences and encouraged people to play it.

 Ritchie Family
A female disco trio created by Ritchie Rome and produced by Jacque Morali, best known for masterminding the Village People (who I guess I'll have to review one of these days).
Labelle-like costumes and ambitious (if tacky) medleys, but as disco devolved and personnel changed they started cranking out the same kind of overlong, minimalist camp as everybody else.
Like Evelyn "Champagne" King and France Joli, after disco died the Ritchie Family went into dance pop: chorused synth doubling the vocal line, Moog-sounding bass synth, Chic-like rhythm guitar, almost no horns or strings - the title track has strong similarities to "Love Come Down," for example.
