The Rocky Horror Picture Show (RHPS) (first released in the United Kingdom on 14 August 1975) is a science fiction-comedy-horror musical film directed by Jim Sharman from a screenplay by Sharman and Richard O'Brien, who also composed the songs.
He prepares the Floor Show, at which each of the characters has been put in a trance and are each freed from their frozen state to sing and dance in a cabaret act.
The parts were cast to show members of the administration and songs were rewritten using the same melodies, but parody lyrics, describing the Republican "takeover" of the country.

Still playing in midnight showings around the world where die hard fans dress up and perform scenes from the film while audience members talk back and throw things at the screen, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" was the first interactive media event before multimedia as a phrase even existed.
Though this is a noble effort, I strongly urge anyone who has not seen "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on the big screen to see it at least once in theaters even if you buy this disc set first.
Having seen it in a few movie theaters myself at midnight showings, I cannot emphasize enough the difference between watching it at a theater in New York's Greenwich Village and watching it at home is to the overall experience.

Continuity: After the "Time Warp" while they are showing the characters lying on the floor, you can see Janet starting to say her lines in the background.
Audio problem: During "I Can Make You A Man," when Frank slides his finger down Rocky's chest while saying "ste-he-he-he-heam," you can hear a solitary beep from out of nowhere, from when the synthesizer was hit accidentally during that part of the song and was never edited out (it is on the CD too).
Continuity: When the color machine has been lowered and Frank has finished opening the spigots, there is a shot which shows his reflection in the monitor on the console where Riff Raff is turning the crank.

Back in the mid-70s when The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a midnight staple at countless movie theaters, Tim Curry wasn't yet "Tim Curry" and Susan Sarandon wasn't yet "Susan Sarandon" (hell, Barry Bostwick wasn't even "Barry Bostwick"!).
By the time of the Floor Show medley and then the genuinely beautiful "I'm gong home" it's impossible to not to be swept away by it all.
There is something undeniably Steinmanesque about the whole project, and Richard O'Brien never reprised his success; after a couple of horrible attempts to re-do the Rocky Horror, he was last heard of playing bit parts on Robin of Sherwood.
