  Supersuckers Reviews
Let me be the first to take the Supersuckers to task for making their worst record yet: a "bona fide" country album.
Problem is this sounds like the 'Suckers learned how to play country via some correspondence course advertised in the back of the Austin Chronicle.
The Supersuckers have always been masters of yer basic three-chord punk rock anthems, but they're in way over their heads on Must've Been High, where their limitations become very obvious: They just don't know how to write good, heartfelt country tunes.

Supersuckers are a Southern-fried punk rock band that, if not firmly tutored in metal, have at least watched This Is Spinal Tap several dozen times.
On The Sacrilicious Sounds, Supersuckers even make a nod to Ozzy Osbourne on 'Ozzy.' Such familiarity with headbanging instills their music with crunchy intensity, causing their rhythms to sound like a cross between the Ramones and Motorhead.
Last time I saw them they totally rocked and three guys were thrown out by bouncers, one was "ejected" by another guy in the crowd for being unruly, and Eddie Spaghetti got hit in the face with a ding dong wrapped in aluminum foil.

 Interview with the Supersuckers
Over the course of the last 10 years, the Supersuckers have established themselves as one of the most hard working and likeable bands in rock, releasing The Smoke of Hell in 1992 and La Mano Cornuda in 1994.
In 1999 the Supersuckers cut what is largely considered to be their best recorded moment to date, The Evil Powers of Rock 'N' Roll.
Our soundman had been recording our country shows because you can get a really good sounding recording with the country stuff a lot easier than you can with the rock stuff; because when we do the rock show it's just so loud and so bombastic it's hard to just get a good room recording.

 CMT.com : Supersuckers : Biography
The Supersuckers were formed in Tucson, AZ, in 1988 by high-school friends Eddie Spaghetti (born Edward Carlyle Daly III, bass, vocals), Ron Heathman (guitar), Dan "Thunder" Bolton (guitar), Dancing Eagle (born Dan Seigal, drums), and Eric Martin (lead vocals).
Shortening their name to the Supersuckers, the band recorded singles for several indie labels, including eMpTy, Sympathy for the Record Industry, and Lucky; these were collected on the eMpTy compilation The Songs All Sound the Same, which became the band's first CD release in 1992.
Strongly disenchanted by the experience, the Supersuckers landed on the small Twenty14.com label and finally recorded the proper follow-up to Sacrilicious, recycling some of the material from their ill-fated Interscope debut.

The Supersuckers are close friends with the punks known as Zeke so, as you might guess, they sound a little bit like Zeke, but they also sound like a cross between a folksy version of Leftover Crack.
Sacrilicious is their fourth release and by far one of their most insightful filled to the brim with really gorgeous rhythms, great lyrics, and some of the best songs of the band’s career.
Ron Heathman and Dan Bolton are the dual guitarists of The Supersuckers and even though they are great guitarists, some of their stuff seems a little robotic in Sacrilicious.

Though those under-appreciative of the Supersuckers' Satan, Wild West, booze, and heroin imagery may rely on the grunge moniker to pinpoint the group's sound, the Supersuckers are a true power-chord driven punk band, albeit with a penchant for heavy metal posturing.
After the departure of guitarist Ron Heathman in 1995, the Supersuckers recruited guitarist Rick Sims, from the recently disbanded Didjits, to record their third Sub Pop album, The Sacrilicious Sounds of the Supersuckers.

 The Supersuckers Album Reviews
Don’t be mislead by the fact that these Arizonans appeared on the Sub Pop label; contrary to most acts on that label, the Suckers are thoroughly unpretentious, hard-rocking, and spearheaded by Eddie Spaghetti, a sardonic cowboy combining the wit of an intellectual clown with the sexist rants of a deranged hillbilly.
Although they’d never grow up, the Supersuckers would diversify their sound later on and tone down the punk velocity, but if you don’t like this heap of white-hot devil’s music, chances are that you’re never gonna like them.
Embracing the belief that a band’s creative course is defined by its limitations, the Supersuckers basically refused to grow up and turned in another beer-soaked party album with a dual guitar assault, thundering drums and a whole lotta nonsense as key ingredients.

One would think that with the addition of one of punk rock's best guitarists, ex-Didjit Rick Sims, the Supersuckers would easily recover from the departure of Ron Heathman and maybe be the better for it.
But, as Sacrilicious painfully illustrates, Heathman added much more bulk to The Supersuckers ' sound than Sims provides here.
While Sacrilicious offers less of the spirited blunt edge found on La Mano Cornuda, songs like the amphetamine-country stampede of "Born With A Tail" and the Bourbon St. blues shuffle of "Don't Turn Blue" thankfully expand The Supersuckers ' musical vocabulary.

Jettisoning the transatlantic components from its sound, the band belches out such all-American exhaust fumes as "Hell City, Hell," "Hot Rod Rally," "Drink and Complain" and "Sweet 'n' Sour Jesus." None of it means nothing, but the sheer expense of tightly compressed energy is its own breathless reward.
The stupendous Sacrilicious unveils a supercharged Supersuckers, with Heathman temporarily traded for ex-Didjits guitarist/singer Rick Sims, a forceful visionary and a sharp songwriter with a blistering sense of humor.
Armed with an army of self-effacing Nashville cats plus helpful liner notes that point out the similarities between country and punk, the album manages to be simultaneously reverent and irreverent, with a slew of solid tunes and a dedication to the genre’s craft.

Something of an anomaly on the Sub Pop roster, the Supersuckers bore a limited surface resemblance to grunge, but they were a party band at heart, donning cowboy hats and kicking out a gleefully trashy brand of throttling, rockabilly-flavored garage punk.
The Supersuckers are the only band in the world that could release an album called Motherfuckers Be Trippin' without sounding hokey or just plain ridiculous.
Of course, this is possible only because the Supersuckers, and able leader Eddie Spaghetti, don't take themselves too seriously.

For nearly a decade, the Supersuckers have kicked up a ruckus somewhere around punk’s nether regions, winning a legion of fans sick of DIY elitism by virtue of their blatant irreverence toward underground music dogma.
The resulting EP featured songs penned by both parties, and, even with the inclusion of versions of their best-known live staple ‘Creepy Jackalope Eye’, may have furthered the notion that the ‘suckers were moving away from the fast, fun and evil.

After playing the local scene for about a year under the name the Black Supersuckers (taken from a pornographic novel), the band moved to Seattle, ostensibly in search of a climate more conducive to leather jackets.
Produced by the Butthole Surfers' Paul Leary, the album was noticeably different from the Supersuckers' usual pedal-to-the-metal roar, owing to Heathman's absence, despite some worthy additions to the group's catalog (like "Born With a Tail").
