I mean, come on, 8 years have passed since the original “Santa Clause” charmed audiences back in 1994, and the long wait in between films has allowed an entire generation of fans to grow up, and out, of this whimsical tale.
“Clause 2” is credited to 5 writers, so that explains part of the delay, and this team has manufactured something rare in a sequel: a reason to be.
But that is where the heart stops in “Clause 2,” with other moments involving Scott’s courtship of Carol, and his troubled relationship with his son Charlie, failing to matter in the overall scheme of things.

The Santa Clause 2: The Mrs. Clause
Santa's third problem is work, the toys must be finished on time for the big night.
The solution for the work comes from Elf #2, Curtis (Spencer Breslin) who develops a process by which Santa can be cloned, and can appear to be working while the real spirit of Christmas heads South to get his kid back on the "nice" list and find a suitable wife.
But the heart of the film and what makes it magical is the willingness of Santa to give up his last ounce of magic to bring the essence of Christmas to a cynical burned out group of teachers who have lost the dream of a kid's Christmas.

Santa Clause 2 is no masterpiece by any means, but in an age of post-9/11 bleakness, paranoia, and cynicism, the film is an often charming throwback to simpler...and better...days.
All the way around, Santa Clause 2 is a bit on the odd and quirky side (although, really, is it fair to call farting reindeer "odd" or "quirky"?), adding to its simple and unexpected charm.
Santa Clause 2 will likely never attain classic status along the lines of A Christmas Story, but in a year filled with snipers, multiple "wars," global discord, and economic woes, the film ultimately emerges as a simple and unoffending reminder that we can sometimes be at our best when matters are worst.

The Santa Clause 2 comes eight years after the original The Santa Clause, which came as star Tim Allen was riding high on the success of his show Home Improvement.
Eight years after he accidentally killed Santa Claus, put on his red coat and assumed the job of the world's toy deliveryman, Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) has fully adjusted to the job and is in his element, working with his small army of toy-making elves.
The plastic Santa left in command goes berserk and creates an army of toy soldiers, where he imposes a goofy form of martial law at the workshop and decides everyone in the world has been bad and deserves a lump of coal.

The Santa Clause 2 is a worthy successor to the original 1994 film — that is to say, anyone under age 10 will be enchanted; anyone over age 10 will have trouble stifling their boredom.
Even the so-called "clever" moments of satire (such as the opening segment, in which Santa's workshop must avoid detection from a nearby plane) are too juvenile to be considered suitable for adults.
As a sappy, family-oriented romantic comedy, The Santa Clause 2 isn't too bad, but, figuring that kids might not be too interested in Santa smooching, the filmmakers felt the need to introduce two frighteningly bad subplots.

THE SANTA CLAUSE 2 - WIDESCREEN DVD
Scott Calvin (Allen) has been Santa since killing the previous Santa in the first movie--the king of a perverse cult of international cattle-call children in a set too gaudy for Toys, who themselves are micro-managed by an uncommonly tall Jewish elf (David Krumholtz).
Santa makes a plastic toy clone of himself (also, sadly, played by Allen) who, besides frightening all of the small children in the audience, becomes an epaulet-wearing despot intent on giving the kids of the world coal in their stockings (which, funnily enough, would be a boon for many children in the world).
For as bad as The Santa Clause 2 is, I say it's preferable to its predecessor; if the clueless filmmakers had a notion of the subversive images they were putting forth, this could've been a minor classic of the genre, no foolin'.

Fortunately, The Santa Clause 2 takes the cuteness of the original and makes a much less age dependent, full on family fun adventure from it.

Because of that, SC2 loses some of the wonder associated with the magic of Santaland, but at least sticks faithfully to the previously established world and set pieces of the first film.

Clause 2 isn't going to go down as a children's classic, but its endearing enough to make an impression.
The 1994 The Santa Clause was Allen's first foray into feature films after he had established himself as a television star in his hit series Home Improvement--and no one had a clue the movie would be as successful as it was, catapulting Allen into movie stardom.
Sure, Clause 2 is a little cartoonish, a tad predictable and sometimes heavy-handed with the message about the spirit of Christmas, but it's also just pure fun.

It is a sequel to a very average children’s film made in 1994 called “The Santa Clause.” The original had Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) being transformed into Santa Clause, and the sequel has this transformation being undone by a tiny clause in his contract known as the Mrs.
The clause states that Scott must find himself a bride by Christmas Eve, otherwise he can no longer be Santa.
