Over the course of the investigation they learn that Dracula has been brought back to life by one of his disciples and that he means to unleash a new strain of the plague that kills within minutes.
Dracula has his classic powers and weaknesses he is vulnerable to crosses, garlic, silver, sunlight, and a staking to the heart.
Having Dracula who masterminded a plan to wipe out humanity, turned the most powerful people in England into his pawns, and was a hairs width from getting away with it, fall down and be staked without a fight is an unacceptable ending for this movie.

The strange paternalness of Dracula's actions, implying that he viewed poor Courtney as a "son" (even despite the whole "taking over his body and reshaping it in his own image" thing) and thus considers having these fathers killed by their own children just compensation, makes this more than your usual villain-seeks-revenge plot.
Dracula is killed by…well, images of a Mass, supposedly invoked suddenly by Paul's fiddling around with the church (why it kills Dracula at that particular moment in the battle and why Dracula didn't relocate to some place not as potentially holy are both beyond me).
While seeing Alice morph into Dracula's evil slave was nice (the scene where she leads Lucy to her master like a lamb to the slaughter is almost a classic), she does little else but be the Juliet to Paul's obnoxious Romeo.

Dracula, Prince of Darkness / Satanic Rites of Dracula   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
Dracula, Prince of Darkness is typical Hammer fare: good performances and a workman-like script with the usual amount of neck-biting and blood.
In the last of Hammer's vampire films, the series hits a low point with The Satanic Rites of Dracula, which finds the bad Count transplanted to modern day London (after all, he is immortal), and leading some sort of bizarre Satanic cult that has entrapped some of England's most influential and important people.
The Satanic Rites of Dracula (released in the United States as Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride) is the concept stretched to its thinnest.

 The Satanic Rites of Dracula
Lee's Dracula rarely appears at all in this movie and when he does, he just kind of goes through the motions (the script doesn't really give him much to do, since the focus is on this stupid satanic cult that is trying to cook up a batch of plague).
Van Helsing remembers that Dracula doesn't like it when he gets pricked by hawthorn bushes (cause they made Christ's crown of thorns out if it) so he runs through them and then we see why Chris Lee was so perturbed that he had to make this movie.
Dracula twists and turns and whines about all the owies he's getting from the bush, so Van Helsing takes a handy fence post and rams it through Dracula, ending the battle once and for all.

Dracula flees but becomes entangled in a whitethorn bush in the mansion's park and is once again - this time in not a quite spectacular way - impaled by van Helsing.
Actually, the movie is simply bad, the plot is stupid and completely illogic, the special effects are mostly ridiculous and the bungler of a director, Alan Gibson put the movie so badly in scene that it is not even funny and therefore could have acquired some cult status among the bad taste fans.
Even if Lee has always been a fairly good actor and even had the chance to play the James Bond evil doer once ("The man with the golden gun"), he never managed to become a super star, which was probably due to minor movies such as this one.

“Dracula: Prince of Darkness” is commonly held in pretty low-esteem by fans of the classic Hammer series starring Christopher Lee.
Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the werewolf, and all the other horror staples were revamped and energized by Hammer, but none so completely as Dracula.
In the first film, “Horror of Dracula” (1958) Christopher Lee shattered the anemic, prissy image of Lugosi’s count with a mixture of ferocity and sensuality lacking from any Dracula before or, arguably, since.

Despite the slating that Dracula A.D. got from the critics, Hammer still produced a sequel, continuing the Dracula story in the modern day.
It was originally scripted as Dracula is Dead and Well and Living in London, and it is unclear how close the finished film is to the original script.
Wisely, there were no sequels to this film, but there was another Dracula movie by Hammer- the character featured in the film The Legend Of The Seven Golden Vampires (1974), in which Peter Cushing played Van Helsing for the final time.

Dracula has, it seems, allowed his contempt for humanity to reach its logical conclusion: no longer content with drinking blood, he has gathered together a group of scientists and created a plague which will eradicate all life on earth.
Unbelievable, it becomes terribly apparent that the culprit may be none other than dracula him self, secretly plotting to unleash a fatal virus upon the world.
In short, this makes for a very poor plot and low budget effects, we only see Dracula approach one female victim and even then we are spared the horror of her fate.

Evil of Dracula is probably the best of these, and also the one most obviously influenced by the Hammer cycle, but that doesn't turn out to be a good thing.
We suppose this is an advantage if you're dead set on watching this movie from beginning to end – at least you have something on which to focus your attention beside the inaction on screen – but for most viewers, it will merely be further incentive to turn off the TV set.
Evil of Dracula was originally known as The Bloodthirsty Rose, which fits a bit better with the movie's plot and themes – and the fact that Dracula never makes an appearance.
