  Features - 75 Years of the Scots Independent
On the 22nd of the month Hugh MacDiarmid’s masterpiece in Scots "A Drunk Man Looks At The Thistle" was published, and 26th November was the date of the official launch of a new political newspaper "The Scots Independent".
From the outset the Scots Independent called for the formation of a "Scottish National Party" and the Scots National League was among the bodies which came together to form the National Party of Scotland in 1928.
Gordon Menzies wrote a special song ‘Scots Independent’ recalling the launch of the SI under the first Editor William Gillies, aided by his son lain (grandfather and father respectively of Anne Lorne Gillies), to headline the CD.

The Scots Independent is a monthly newspaper that is in favour of Scottish independence.
It was formed in 1926 with William Gillies as editor, by the Scots National League (SNL) and switched its allegiance to the National Party of Scotland (NPS) when the SNL joined with them in 1928.
When the NPS merged with the Scottish Party in 1934 to form the Scottish National Party (SNP) they switched to supporting them.

The Scots National League (SNL) were a body seeking Scottish independence in the early 1920s.
The SNL was largely influenced by Sinn Fein and advocated the removal of elected nationalist MPs from the Westminster Parliament to set up an independent Parliament.
The SNL established the Scots Independent newspaper in 1926 to further their aims.
