On Shaggy Dog, he and co-writer Lillie Hayward (who had worked regularly since the silent era but had only recently come to Disney) would be guided by The Hound of Florence, a 1930 novel written by Felix Salten, the Austrian author of another important Disney adaptation, Bambi (as well as 1957's "True Life Fantasy" Perri).
While The Shaggy Dog took quite a bit longer than most films to land on disc, the wait seems acceptable, as Walt's first all-out comedy is treated to a delightful widescreen transfer and three worthwhile bonus features.
Back to the subject at hand, The Shaggy Dog is one of the easiest DVDs of a Walt-Era live action film to recommend, based on the strengths of the film, the quality of the presentation, and the value of the bonus material.

Because this movie is about dogs, there are the usual references to sniffing butts, dogs peeing on bushes, etc. In one scene human Dave is peeing at a urinal along with other men and he lifts his leg.
An older Disney version of the Shaggy Dog exists, but I like this new one better for one main reason: The old version depicts wizardry through a ring as being the force that transforms a teenager into a dog.
They kept on showing a dog peeing in the yard, some people said a few things about stuff like that, and when the man is acting like a dog but isn’t turned into a dog yet, it shows him using the bathroom and doing it the way dogs do it.

Reviews: The Shaggy Dog - Christianity Today Movies
The Shaggy Dog is not really a remake of the old Disney human-goes-to-the-dogs movies (1959's The Shaggy Dog and 1976's The Shaggy D.A) in that none of the original characters (except the sheepdog) appear here.
But when a lovable sheepdog that Carly and her boyfriend have inadvertently dognapped from the lab bites Dave, the skeptical lawyer is confronted with evidence of genetic engineering he can't refute.
The Shaggy Dog is rated PG for "mild rude humor." Most of it has to do with dogs' tendencies to sniff each other in "personal" areas—a bawdy gag that runs a little long but is tame by today's standards.

 'The Shaggy Dog' - Zap2it
Given Walt Disney Pictures' habit of recycling, revisiting or remaking every property in the company's vaults, a new edition of "The Shaggy Dog" was inevitable; given Tim Allen's fondness for family-friendly vehicles, tweaking the franchise to fit his beleaguered everyman persona couldn't have been too difficult.
Everything proceeds more or less as you'd expect, with Allen running around doing dog things as a man, and appearing in voiceover as his four-legged alter ego runs around doing man things.
Disney's DVD includes both full-frame and enhanced-widescreen presentations of the feature, each with its own set of audio options: The full-frame version can be watched in English, French or Spanish, while the widescreen transfer offers an optional audio commentary from director Brian Robbins and producer David Hoberman.
