It is loosely based on the novel The Shape of Things to Come, by H.
Christopher Frayling of the British Film Institute calls Things to Come "a landmark in cinematic design." The special effects, while crude by today's standards, are visually powerful.

The styling may be futuristic, but the thing is still clearly meant to be a helicopter as known in the 20th century, so that's impossible.
Interesting was the complete avoidance of any religious side to things; the 'things to come' seem to revolve around a conflict between warlike barbarism and a a faith in science that seems to have little ultimate goal, but to just go on and on.
"Things to Come", as it stands, is an intriguing oddity, well worth perusing, yet far short of a "Metropolis"...

I have no doubt, from the detailed plot set up and seriousness of every actor involved, that "The Shape of Things to Come" was meant to be a film that would rival Lucas's "Star Wars" in the science fiction genre.
If you're a fan of trash cinema, you can't do much better than "The Shape of Things to Come." This picture is a hilarious cult classic, a picture worthy of respect if for no other reason than that it illustrates how important "so good it's bad" films can be.

The film I described definitely would be an epileptic's worst nightmare, but "The Shape of Things to Come" would not be a wise viewing choice either.
Why Jason and the others do not just duck between the ponderous things and then escape is a big question.

With the names Jack Palance and Carol Lynley above the title, you would think that The Shape of Things to Come (purportedly from the book by HG Wells, although I see little similarity) would be a sci-fi adventure to die for.
Well, it is...after watching this for half an hour you realise that yes, you have actually died and gone to hell.
