Newry City F.C. is a Northern Ireland football club playing in the Irish Football League.
In this first ever season in European competition, Newry Town (as they were then known) were drawn against the Croatia side Hrvatski Dragovoljac.
Again, Newry were drawn away in the first leg, coming away with a respectable 2-0 defeat to the German professionals.

Newry Rugby Club was first formed in 1925 and for several years matches were played at Greenbank in Newry behind the present soccer grounds.
Newry Town Football Club gave the Rugby Club permission to use the back pitch at the Showgrounds for playing rugby and friendly fixtures were arranged for the 1961 /62 season.
From 1961 to 1972 the Boulevard Hotel in Newry was used for changing accomodation and catering for which thanks must go to the Garland family who were the proprietors of the Hotel during this period and who built dressing rooms and showers at the back of the Hotel for the use of the Club.

During a recent visit to the Showgrounds I was amazed at the transformation of the stadium, and I would like to congratulate them on the improved facilities, which have been brought up to meet E.U.F.A standards and requirements.

It was an easy victory but you can wonder what might have happened had Newry fully capitalised on an early defensive mistake, which presented one of their players with an open goal.
Even at this stage it seemed that Newry were resigned to a defeat and Coleraine continued to assert their superiority with Armstrong guilty of a poor miss after good work by Curran and Tolan presented him with a golden opportunity.
