Sky High is funny, smart, energetic, subversive, and has a few substantive things to say.
Sky High doesn't aim for the highbrow and doesn't employ lowbrow toilet humor.
Sky High gets Kurt Russell back to his retro Disney roots, and he's still in good enough shape at age 54 to wear a supernatural hunk's cape.

Sky High - Cranky Critic® Movie Reviews
Sky High takes the superhero genre that we adore and drops it dead into the middle of a modern high school.
"Sky High" is a special school that floats up in the clouds, thus earning its name, and educates young'uns who have developed powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men (and women).
It's too young skewed for a dateflick unless, of course, one of the daters is a fanboy.

The Seattle Times: Arts & Entertainment: "Sky Captain": into the wild blue yonder
Ideally, Kerry Conran's intoxicating sci-fi adventure "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" should be watched in a '30s moviehouse with Art Deco fixtures — just to complete the journey into a bygone world.
Edward Shearmur's score evokes old-school superhero adventures; Stella McCartney's costumes are all nostalgia and nuance, from the flip of a trench-coat collar to the slouch of a fl fedora.
"Sky Captain" has many inspirations — comic books (we see a pile in a brief scene; as one of the movie's few splashes of color), classic sci-fi and adventure movies, and most of all "The Wizard of Oz," which is touchingly evoked in a moviehouse scene and whose narrative structure Conran's film borrows.

 IGN: Sky High Review
On his first day at Sky High, the high school in the clouds where all the heroes' kids train to be either heroes themselves, or sidekicks, Will hasn't even "powered up" yet.
In my high school, we were comparing pubes, but since this is a Disney movie, superpower impotence will have to suffice.
Sky High certainly could have gone a lot further had it aimed at the actual high school crowd rather than the Disney crowd.

Nude as the News: Graham Coxon: The Sky Is Too High
Coxon was arguably the group's finest musician, his guitar parts spicing up Blur's albums with a practiced subversiveness stemming from his influence of the American underground -- particularly the noise-addled scientific rockula of Sonic Youth and Mission of Burma.
Coxon first branched off Blur with the 1998 album The Sky Is Too High, concentrating less on his abilities with scorching riffs and more on a melancholy songwriting ethos that he would all but obliterate with a punked-out sophomore effort, The Golden D.

Unlike his previous band’s efforts, The Sky is too High is far less polished.
The next songs, “A Day is Far Too Long” (arguably the best track on the album) and “R U Lonely?” will remind avid Blur fans of “You’re So Great,” a track that Coxon himself penned for Blur.
Although The Sky is too High has its low points, overall it functions as a great debut album – it showcases Coxon’s creative talents and leaves the listener anxious to hear more.

This school, Sky High, is for the children of superheroes to learn all about being superheroes.
Naturally there's a plot to take over the world involved, but in the main, this is about the school and about high school life, just with a superhero twist.
A lot of the movie revolves around high school relationships, so I would say the best audience for this movie is middle school or junior high kids.

"Sky High" (2005) / a review and/or comments from Christian Spotlight on the Movies
But I digress from my main point, which is that although Sky High may be on the “day-old” bakery shelf, it’s not quite stale yet, and may serve as passable entertainment for the PG crowd to which it is directed.
Her presence, limited as it is, along with that of Cloris Leachman (in a nice cameo role) and that of Russell provides a pleasant, nostalgic nod for some of the non-children in the audience, as does the schmaltzy, '80s soundtrack.
“Sky High” was a funny, entertaining movie with no objectionable scenes to speak of and no bad language (except for one or two uses of the word “jerk”).

However, that didn't stop me from getting a copy of Sky High for myself, to see if it was really as bad as what these reviews were claiming.
The storyline itself which i wasnt expecting is of a spiritual fantasy when an evil force takes the lives of a specific person and takes away their heart shown graphically in the scenes, but nothin too gory from the likes of what the director hasnt shown us before.

Anyone expecting to be hit with a barrage of Song 2 clones should not even bother getting out of bed, let alone hot-footing it down to HMV to snap up a copy of this, the Blur boy's first solo venture.
If, on the other hand, you are brave enough to enter the complex world of Graham Coxon - guitarist and songwriter with one of Britain's best-loved bands - but firmly cemented in his role as the reluctant hero, then it could just be a gamble worth taking.
At first, 'The Sky Is Too High' sounds as if it was recorded in one of the notorious Glasto toilets, in the spare half an hour he had before Blur took their place on the main stage.

If you're an old-school Anglophile who hoped Blur were temporarily sidetracked when they recorded the Pavement-meets-Small Faces bluster of their self-titled 1997 album, this solo album by Blur guitarist Graham Coxon indicates that he, at least, is still obsessed with all things red, white, and new.
Written while his main outfit was on hiatus, The Sky Is Too High reflects both Coxon's love for American indie rock staples like Sonic Youth, Sebadoh, and Jonathan Richman and his need to experiment with sound and mood.

Graham Coxon: The Sky Is Too High ---Ink Blot Magazine
Coxon wrote and recorded The Sky Is Too High during a sober period which saw him swear off his beloved beer and cigarettes, perhaps lending to the muted, confessional vibe of many of the songs.
The next seven tracks are slightly beefier, but mostly stick to the formula of intensely personal lyrics and spare acoustic accompaniment.
"A Day Is Far Too Long" and "R U Lonely?" may be the album's best tracks, exploring the harsh realities of loneliness and sobriety with refreshing candor.

Hollywood Gothique: Sky High (2005) Review
Part of the problem is that, unlike THE INCREDIBLES, SKY HIGH doesn't have the sophistication to mix real thrills with comedy.
Perhaps SKY HIGH would have been more at home on the small screen (it was originally conceived, years ago, as a pilot for a television show).
Nevertheless, the writing and performances are all appealing: stars Russell and Preston are ideal as the happy superhero couple; Bruce Campbell is wonderfully over-the-top in a supporting role (Sky High's equivalent of a gym teacher); Cloris Leachman is great in a bit; and all the kids are charming.

It was a good move for the writers to shift the focus to the coming-of-age metaphors rather than laser vision and super-powered fisticuffs.
The main character, Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) is embarking on his first year of (superhero) high school and faces all the predictable problems: bullies, insecurity, girls, and a superhuman chip on his shoulder, considering his parents (Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston) are the most famous superpeople around.
The plot is too predictable to be exciting, and young Angarano just isn’t a very interesting actor, yet.
