Slimelight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Slimelight club (often referred to as Slimes by regulars) is the longest running goth nightclub in the world.
It is a alternative music club which is open every Saturday (and on New Years Eve) from 10pm to 7.30am (when the London Underground transport network starts running) with 2 or 3 floors playing music genres such as darkwave, EBM, trad goth, gothic rock, futurepop, power noise, synthpop, industrial, and noise.
The name comes from the fact that for a brief period in the summer of 1987 the club was held in a disused church on High Holborn, and "The Slimelight" is a parody of The Limelight, another famous London club of that era also located in a church.

The Slimelight Club, is the longest running Goth nightclub in the world.
The building the club is situated in was an abandoned industrial complex and the club started out as a regular squat party.
The club's facilities were rather basic when it was first started in the early eighties, perhaps one reason for naming the club the 'Slimelight' though this is also a parody of another London club's name that was famous at the time, The Limelight.

Slimelight was my home away from home; every weekend, my pipe and slippers club.
Slimelight made a dramatic decision in the late ‘90s to open a Techno-Trance floor.
Lots of people left Slimelight; lots of people got caught by the dance music bug, traded in their leather and rubber for some loose-fitting jeans and trainers and were absorbed back into mainstream society.

 CYDAILY.COM: Cyberculture - Cyber
Cyber, also known as cyber culture or cyberculture, is the name given to a subculture that has roots in multiple youth scenes including both the goth and rivethead subcultures and also the rave and clubbing scenes.
Someone who identifies with the Cyber subculture can be referred to as a "cyber", although the term "cybergoth" is used to refer to the goth influenced end of the movement, i.e., those who would attend clubs such as Slimelight, and "cyberkid" to refer to those who attend more mainstream dance music clubs such as Gatecrasher.
While fashion and an interest in electronic dance music are two areas that define the cyber subculture, cybers also tend to have a general interest in new and future technology, its influence on society, and other such cyberculture topics.

I'm sure lots of Slimelight goers would like to take a camera just to take photos of themselves and friends (or bands) but have no intention of taking photos of strangers.
I guess Slime management thought that having a policy which allows photos with permission only would be too difficult to enforce.

Many, if not all of my friends, refer to the place as the “Slimelight.” Now, according the the Sacramento Bee dining critic, the Limelight is doing its best to shed the unflattering nickname.

Slimelight is unique really as it's the one remaining part of the UK scene which truly embraces hedonism and deviancy as opposed to "perkiness." It's a dark place with dark grooves, cool people and a genuine appreciation of "gothic" as a lifestyle as opposed to a pose.
We loved playing there 'cos unlike the gigs other promoters put on in London you get to play in front of the true London "creatures of the night" instead of the weekend warriors and kiddy goths.

For the Slimelight show they're joined by Greg Ferrari on guitar and the industrious John Murphy (KnifeLadder, Death in June) on drums and percussion.
This was a long set from the trio of butcher boys where at times the pulverising meditative soundscapes lost focus - possibly due to the claustrophobic acoustics of the Slimelight - but when they hit their stride the music achieves an awesome power.
Yet KnifeLadder are at their strongest on the more song based tracks from the Organic Traces CD.
