"The Son" is a sequel to "The Sheik", adapted by Francis Marion from the novel by E.M. Hull.
When surprised by her followers, including her father and a passionate admirer, and held for a ransom, the son of the sheik is led to believe he has been tricked by the girl, which engenders hatred and a determination for revenge.
There is a bitter fight, with plenty of knife play, the son of the sheik finally emerging unscathed, and with the girl again in his arms.

In 'The Son of the Sheik' he attained a smoothness, a perfection of performance that could well serve as an authoritative example of interpretative pantomime.
'Son of the Sheik' demonstrated that he was quite able to step outside his manufactured image, analyze the Valentino mystique with tongue firmly in cheek, and still give the public what it desired.
It is not difficult for us to believe that he paid for 'Son of the Sheik' with his life, that he had not the physical resistance to throw off the strain of his last location trip which took him into the bitter wastes of the Arizona desert.

The son of the sheikh falls in a love with a gypsy dancer in spite of the huge difference between both of them in terms of social and financial status; this gypsy girl is the center of the story around which all the conflicts take place.
First, the conflict starts when he feels betrayed, the sheikh’s discovery of his son’s love affair, and finally, the confrontation of the good side represented in the sheikh, his son, their men, on the other hand the evil side represented in the gang, which captured the son of the sheikh and manipulated the gypsy dancer.
Romantic in the love scenes between the son and the dancer, the sheikh and his wife; suspenseful in the scenes of the son’s capture, the son’s confrontation with the gypsy girl, the sheikh’s confrontation with the son, and the confrontation with the thieves at the end of the movie.

It is a well known and often told story that Rudolph Valentino was a largely unknown actor when he appeared in The Sheik (1921), the film that shot him into the rarified heights of an international film star.
The film, based on a ‘scandalous’ British novel, seems more than a bit melodramatic today, with its ‘forbidden’ interracial love elements and its sappy story of a privileged and self-determined society woman who is knocked-down a peg or two by the desert and its inhabitants.
Featured with The Sheik on this DVD is the film’s sequel, The Son of the Sheik (1926).
