The Song Remains The Same - Led Zeppelin ---------------------------------------------------- From the live album of the same name Transcribed by Howard Wright howardw (at) jmdl (dot) com Although this is based on the live version, it applies pretty well to the studio version of the song.
On the studio track there are one or two guitar parts doing the same kind of thing as this live version, but there are others in normal tuning doing other bits, so it's not easy to pick 'em out.
The tuning for it is the same as for "The Rain Song" which they play just before TSRTS on the live album.

It's easy to see why these songs, like "Houses of the Holy" or "Black Country Woman", were held off the album as they did not fit the overall feel of the Houses of the Holy album.
This album was supposed to have been out in 1972 but problems crept up with the art work and Zeppelin demanded perfection, delaying release of the LP.
While other bands would do massive promotions, by 1970's standards, for albums and tours, Zeppelin was work of mouth and, perhaps, the biggest underground band of all time, which added to the mystery and mystique that was Led Zeppelin.

This joint responsibility is not the fact of a metaphysical principle but the awareness of a simple rule which wills that every independent nation in an Africa where colonialism is still entrenched is an encircled nation, a nation which is fragile and in permanent danger.
An affirmation of identity such as this is (roughly, give or take a few millimeters) the opposite of the kind of negation of the same practiced among the neocolonial community on behalf of the struggling peoples of this region of Africa.
The album will be available in Britain only as an Internet download on www.bignoisemusic.com for 7.99 pounds (11.80 euros, 14.30 dollars), with five pounds going directly to the Oxfam Sudan appeal.

So I am left to assume that the fantasy sequences in The Song Remains the Same (one for each member of Led Zeppelin and their manager, interspersed between the concert footage) are nothing more than a few minutes of eye candy.
Led Zeppelin's album music is incomparable, and this film indicates that their live renditions leave little to be desired.
As I write this I am listening to the DVD, and it is very similar to listening to a live CD (I don't have the CD of Song Remains the Same, or I would compare the two).

I simply got introduced to 'The Song Remains The Same' through a good friend of mine, a Zep-fan like myself, who happened to dig both the film and the soundtrack to death - everything in a time when Zeppelin weren't exactly the hottest news around.

 Led Zeppelin FAQ
As for the "unreleased" material-- "HHWCID" is available on the "Immigrant Song" single, "Traveling Riverside Blues" is a staple of AOR radio, and there are many versions of "White Summer" superior to the one released on the set, so that should not be the deciding factor.
Songs -- "Stairway To Heaven" is one of the most-requested and most-played rock songs of all time.
Plant was bumped by a fan during the same song, forgot the lyrics to one verse and later on forgot the words to "Stairway." Page's solos were somewhat of a disaster, though he did redeem himself a bit at the end of his "Stairway" solo.

At the same time, the industry floods the market with overpriced CDs -- retailing for $15 to $20 but costing less to manufacture than the traditional vinyl record album.
It is hard to doubt that the same artists the RIAA wails about being injured by music downloading and file-sharing would find themselves better paid once music is marketed primarily through the Internet.

Image's recently released LD of "The Song Remains The Same" is a big improvement over previous LD and VHS version of the film.
Also, a number of poor splices, where a frame or two of the film was missing, which caused the music to hiccup, have been replaced, so that the music flows *much* better than it did before.
As I said near the beginning, "The Song Remains The Same" is still the best live footage that exists, and for many people, the only chance of seeing Led Zeppelin performing live.

Fans of the band have always raved about what a great live act the mighty Zep were, but it was sometimes hard to tell by this particular live release that was put out to coincide with the theatrical release of the same name.
Recorded on their 1973 U.S. tour at New York City's Madison Square Garden, The Song Remains the Same was an attempt to capture the band at their zenith.
While the opening track is everything an opening song should be, loud, powerful, and energetic the band seems like they don't quite hit the groove.

The remaining backbone, John Paul Jones and John Bonham, were given rare moments to shine.
I know it's heresy punishable by death to speak ill of the great Zep, but this album shows not only the limitations the band had in concert, but also how difficult it truly is to make a live album.
And then, there's the song that Led Zeppelin will always be known best for: "Stairway To Heaven." Color me extremely biased on this one, but there is no substitute for the original studio version.

Instead, try this: a four-and-a-half hour live DVD document of the band, captured at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970, Madison Square Garden in 1973, Earl’s Court in 1975, and Knebworth in 1979, with the addition of a handful of TV promos and dozens of snippets of unseen road footage.
Where specific sections of video could not be found, a battery of tricks was used, from stills to clever cutaways to excerpts of bootleg Super-8 footage procured from bootleggers on the promise of a credit.
In the case of the lost Madison Square Garden tracks, the film of any one song consists of a patchwork of meticulously edited clips from performances on several different nights.

From the great opening track, "The Song Remains the Same" to the brilliant "The Ocean" that ends the album, welcome to a wonderland of music whose greatness transcends genre and is clearly one of the best albums of all time.
Still, Jimmy remained faithful to his mission from the first album and that was to fuse his musical influences, folk, blues and rock into a unique sonic offering and he succeeds to great effect here.
You always get the feeling that Jimmy Page is always looking for the perfect song to not only start off an album but to open a concert, which probably makes it ironic that the song they apparently used most often was "Rock and Roll," the second track from their fourth album.

Same goes for the Peanuts collections, of which I've read the first two but haven't gotten around to getting the subsequent volumes.
Then I saw the the soundtrack LP, noted that it claimed to be a "soundtrack" of the film of the same name, and assumed that it had been a cheapjack star vehicle that got little release and had quickly faded into obscurity.
Well, no. What they did, first time actors and director alike, was defy the odds and expectations and made a serious, downbeat movie about the rise and fall of a bunch of English working-class lads who formed a group and rose to the top of the heap in short order.

The film is enhanced by each of the band member's personal fantasies (hallucinations?), such as the opening scene (which is awfully confusing the first time around) in which Peter Grant, dressed in a 1930s fl gangster suit drives a 1930s fl Ford to a house and blasts everyone with a machine gun.
