Voice Registers: Chest, head and other voices at Vocalist.org.uk
The sound of the voice can vary considerably in range, colour, tone, pitch and registry breaks, sometimes to such an extent that it appears as if the untrained singer has a bottom, middle and top 'voice', each of which may display differences in timbre or quality.
Place your fingers on your breast bone and then sing a few notes from the bottom end of your range, you should be able to feel the vibration in your chest through your fingers, if you don't feel anything try belting 'Hello' - if your singing in chest voice you should feel something there.
These 'sections' are loosely catagorised by how cords vibrate, glottal and pharyngeal shape, where the voice resonates in the body and the resulting quality or timbre of the voice.

Virtual Hospital: Lung Sounds: Chest Auscultation
Voice-generated sounds radiate through the airways and lungs out through the chest wall and are heard well through the stethoscope.
Adventious sounds can be heard from the lungs themselves, or from other parts of the chest, such as pleura or pericardium.
They can also be diminished when there is decreased air movement, as in the case of emphysema, severe asthma, pneumothorax, complete occlusion of large airways and where there is decreased movement of the chest.

WFU Center For Voice Disorders - Conversation with Natalie Costa
Even doing opera arias -- after listening to tapes of coaching, I'll decide that some low notes will sound stronger if I do them in pure chest voice, so I mark it in my score, whenever I have to go into chest.
A typical scenario with a voice student is that they have a big, "heavy" chest voice and they have a head voice, and in between is a kind of "no man's land".
Your perception of that (chest voice versus head voice) has to be very clear, and very different, but what the average person hears is just one voice -- one wouldn't know that you're making these adjustments.

The ultimate Voice training For Singers - Vocal Tips
The sound of your voice is one of the first indicators of fatigue; even a friend miles away can tell you that you "sound tired" on the phone.
If you are experiencing a noticeable loss of your upper register, finding your voice excessively "cracking" and giving out in the higher notes, consider this as a possibility...stop eating 3 hours prior to bedtime, and avoid spicy foods, coffee (acid); anything that is hard on the stomach.
The first twenty minutes of the Ultimate Voice Training for Singers daily maintenance/warmup tape is perfect for this purpose.

Ani Williams - Voice Spectrum Analysis
In 1994 she developed Songaia Sound Medicine, which combines Voice Spectrum Analysis, a leading edge method of mapping an individual's unique voice print, and Songaia Sound Medicine CDs, an effective application of harmonic frequencies for reintegrating specific musical tones.
The human voice is truly a barometer of the soul, and one's unique voice print can reveal emotional, physical, and genetic frequency patterns.
In a session, the tone patterns of your speaking voice are assessed and you don't need to sing, or have a singing voice!

DR V3.1: OBOE AND THE HUMAN VOICE
The character and colour of the sound of both oboe and the human voice depend largely on the partials which the fundamental sound is given by its resonators.
Of all instruments, particularly the double reed instruments can justify the claims of being near to the most natural and accomplished of all musical sound producers, the mechanism of human vocal organs, which generate the human voice.
In the case of the human voice, the resonators are the various throat, mouth and head cavities, while for the oboe the resonator is the hollow body of the instrument.

VOICE - LoveToKnow Article on VOICE
During the production of the chest voice, the space between the arytenoid cartilages is open, and between the vocal cords there is an ellipsoidal opening which gradually closes as the pitch of the sound rises (see figs.
Eunuchs retain the voices of childhood; and by careful training it is possible in normal persons to arrest the development of the larynx so that an adult male can still sing the soprano parts sometimes used in cathedral choirs.
In advanced life the upper notes of the register are gradually weakened and ultimately disappear, whilst the character of the voice also changes, owing to loss of elasticity caused by ossification, which first begins about middle life in the thyroid cartilage, then appears in the cricoid, and much later in the arytenoid.

Voiceproblem.org: Anatomy and Physiology of Voice Production: Understanding How Voice is Produced
Voiced sound: The basic sound produced by vocal fold vibration is called "voiced sound." This is frequently described as a "buzzy" sound.
Resonance: Voiced sound is amplified and modified by the vocal tract resonators (the throat, mouth cavity, and nasal passages).
The pitch of a voice – how high or how low a voice is – depends on the frequency of vocal fold vibration.

The chest voice is often associated with deep, warm, rich, thick sounds.
The middle voice also extends to the inclusion of the vocal mask and a warm, heady sound.
Just like the pharynx is actually one component divided into three regions for easy reference, singing voices are often categorized in registers (chest voice, middle voice, head voice, falsetto).

When someone belts it means they use their throat to shout on pitch, for lack of a better word, instead of using their breath support to naturally produce a louder sound.
Mostly, I found that belting and using the chest voice for singing was a lot like talking, but loud and sustained.

Voice production - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Voiced phonemes such as the pure vowels are by definition distinguished by the buzzing sound of this periodic oscillation of the vocal chords.
Voice production is the generation of sound in the human speech organs.
The larynx or voice box is a cylindrical framework of cartilage that serves to anchor the vocal chords while they contract as a pair of lips to impede that airflow, until the vocal chords are periodically forced apart by the increasing air pressure from the lungs.

New study explores how human voice works
BOWLING GREEN, O.--Although the human voice is understood in the most basic of terms, the intricate workings of the larynx and vocal folds--the primary parts used in the making of sound--remain a mystery.
The models will be used to explore the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic properties of voice, measuring things such as airflows, air pressures, and sound, and how those measures change when the shape of the larynx changes.
But claiming to understand the intricate workings of the human voice from this overall perspective is like claiming to understand the workings of the internal combustion engine because you learned to pump your own gas at a service station.

The changes in sound are usually due to disorders related to the vocal folds which are the sound producing parts of the voice box (larynx).

The Vocal Studio - Vocal FAQs & Myths
When a singer ascends from their speaking chest voice into their head voice, the vocal cords shorten in vibrating length as sound waves begin to travel more and more behind the soft palate, resonating in the head cavity.
Similarly, pulling your chest voice up can eventually lead to a host of vocal problems such as vocal strain, hoarseness, nodules, and even the loss of your upper range altogether.
Classical tends to be over-hooty and singers are often taught to bring their head voice down so low that there is no connection to chest voice.

 Phonation
A voiced sound is produced when an overpressure of air in the lungs causes the vocal folds to vibrate.
The voice source is used to change intonation and the tone of words by varying the subglottal pressure as well as the tension of the vocal folds.
The resulting sound is modified by movements in the vocal tract, by the volume of the airflow and by the degree of constriction of the folds.

The vOICe Remote Control and Eye-Tracking
Command sequences via vOICeCommand() like "Speed*4", "Zoom*4" and "Saccade 25 75" (or combinations of "Home", "Left", Right", "Up", "Down") can be used to associate newly tracked eye positions with corresponding changes in the absolute positions in a zoomed auditory view, thereby possibly enhancing the visual experience in seeing with sound.
Such an approach lends further support to the position of The vOICe as a non-invasive vision technology for the totally blind, as compared to invasive technogies such as retinal implants and brain implants, although a hybrid approach with camera implants for The vOICe (intraocular camera) is another possibility.
In the following table an overview is given of the commands currently supported via calls to the vOICeCommand() function:
