The South Alberta Light Horse is an Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment and part of the Canadian Army Primary Reserve.
Based in Edmonton and Medicine Hat Alberta, the SALH is the Pan-Alberta Regiment, with a deep and proud history of service to Canada and the Crown.
The South Alberta Light Horse is one of the last of the "Light Horse" Regiments in the Commonwealth and our members are continually answering the call of duty by serving within NATO, The United Nations and locally to emergencies within Canada.

Horses in the wild grow long, thick protective coats during the winter; they are better at staying warm than cooling off.
A trace clip was often used on carriage horses and follows the lines of harness traces on the underside of the neck and belly, but remains popular for riding horses.

 Mobilization
The Dominion Mobilization Scheme had originally called for the Edmonton Regiment and the 15th Alberta Light Horse to be immediately mobilized for war.
In the summer of 1939 - while horse cavalry continued to train in Canada - the decision to replace cavalry units in the mobilization scheme was made, and the Calgary Highlanders were selected to be the second infantry regiment in Alberta to mobilize alongside the Edmonton Regiment.
The South Alberta Regiment (or SAR) in Medicine Hat would mobilize later in the war as an armoured reconnaissance regiment for the 4th Canadian (Armoured) Division.
