Chorus Sports has developed out of the old Local Channel service provided by Cork Communications since the early-to-mid-80s.
In early 1999 The Local Channel began concentrating its filmed programming on sports, particularly inter-club GAA games - something proving very popular in Munster (witness the Limerick pirate station RLOTV which also concentates on this).
With the relaunch of Irish Multichannel as Chorus, the station has now offically declared itself a Sports Channel, although certain elements of the old Local Channel, such as the noticeboard service and Chorus Subscriber Information, should be preserved under the new format - although there are apparently no community announcements at present.
