  Star Trek @ Filmbug UK
Star Trek is a science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry in 1966 that tells the tale of the crew of the starship Enterprise and of their adventures "to boldly go where no man has gone before." The original show was cancelled in 1969, but fans refused to let it die.
Many episodes and films revolve around a threat to the status quo that is resolved by the crew, and usually everything is back to normal by the closing credits.
Star Trek: The Animated Series is an animated TV show set in the fictional Star Trek universe.

Star Trek VII: Generations: (Dennis McCarthy) Sandwiched in between Star Trek VI and First Contact, this score has become lost in the transitory phase between the original series films and the next generation films.
It was the first (and last, to date) attempt by the producers of the films to use a composer of the television series instead of a traditional hollywood composer.
In Star Trek VI, Cliff Eidelman constructed a dark and menacing base string and male chorus motif to signal the presence of the evil Klingons; his motif began the score, rumbled at the appropriate times throughout, and drove a section of the end credits.

Filmtracks: The Music of Star Trek
Star Trek: The Motion Picture mirrored the end credit suite format established by John Williams for Star Wars by bracketing Ilia's theme with performances of the main theme --a format that would become all too familiar for sci-fi movie fans in the decades to come.
I respect the decision to score the fourth film differently; it was, after all, a comical relief from the heavy drama of the previous films (and Horner scores).
Perhaps the best cue of the film occurs when Kirk clenches his fist and says "fire!" (don't we all love that?) and the Bird of Prey is blown to bits (too bad that same footage was manipulated a little and used again in Star Trek: Generations).

 STAR TREK: NEMESIS - DVD
For a film in a tired franchise trying to duplicate Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (inarguably the best of the cinematic "Trek" line) down to an articulate arch villain, heroic sacrifice, and mind-meld cheat, the irony of having the central conflict revolve around a defective clone is delicious and hilarious.
Star Trek: Nemesis (hereafter Nemesis) is abominable pretension draped in the sheep's frock of sci-fi pulp--pap of the first water invested in undergraduate doubling subtexts and ridiculous stabs at existentialism reminding of the discovery of the wizard of God in the fifth Trek flick.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundmix is more undistinguished than that of Star Trek: Insurrection for belonging to a somehow talkier film, though any time the Enterprise is on a gimbal there is a vigorous amount of bass and some fury that trickles into the rear channels.

While Star Trek IV was indeed a warmly humorous adventure, its comedy often arose organically from the fish-out-of-of-water situations in which the time-travelling crew found themselves; here, these lame attempts at humor seem painfully forced, and are so poorly written and clumsily directed as to be groan-inducing.
While the climax of the film (in which Sybok and company happen upon a malevolent creature who is certainly less than a God) is a rather pedestrian example of science fiction, I find the true import of the film is in its exploration of the talent which Sybok possesses.

FMS: Feature [Boldly Gone: The Final "Star Trek" Score – Jon Burlingame]
The Star Trek series were among the few weekly shows left in American television to consistently use an orchestra, and McCarthy's deft handling of the music was a significant but underrated factor in providing pace, excitement and emotional content on all four series.
Nine of Star Trek's 16 Emmy nominations in the music categories have been for McCarthy scores, and he is the only Trek composer to have won twice: for the "Unification" score in TNG's 1991-92 season, and for the main title theme of DS9 in 1992-93.
McCarthy praised the producers for their "flat-out loyalty" over the years, and spoke warmly of the "total freedom" he was given from the beginning of the series in 1987.
