FJ attended Star Trek conventions and book signings from 1975-1983, then withdrew from most public appearances to care for my mother, who was a homebound invalid due to advanced osteoporosis and multiple strokes.
Robert Wise had no clue what Star Trek was about, and when I heard him speak at a junior college a few months after the movie came out, I realized that the parts he described throwing on the cutting room floor were the parts that should have stayed in the film.
Obviously, in the Star Trek universe as it has evolved in the movies and subsequent TV series, Earth is the premier member of the UFP and designs all the logos and doesn't give a damn if the aliens get the meaning or not.

One summer I was at one of the CTY summer camps that I participated in, and much of the talk and gossip at the time was about this new Star Trek show that was being started.
There's definitely a jaw-dropping aspect to watching a fleet of thirty-some Klingon ships, from the now familiar Bird of Prey to newer battleship designs — even a few of the old standard D7 class (yes, I'm a geek, I didn't need to look at that up) — decloaking around the station.

As legend has it, back in the pre-production days of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, the creator of the STAR TREK franchise, Gene Rodenberry decided that a speed limit should be in place for warp travel.
Warp-10 had become the unattainable maximum speed limit for the galaxy (unless you have alien technology), and was thus dubbed "TRANS WARP" because it's assumed that at Warp-10, you were at all places in the universe simultaneously.
The values for the more modern warp speeds were directly copied from page 556 of the Star Trek Encyclopedia.
