Kidney Stones in Adults   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Stones that cause lasting symptoms or other complications may be treated by various techniques, most of which do not involve major surgery.
Other causes of kidney stones are hyperuricosuria which is a disorder of uric acid metabolism, gout, excess intake of vitamin D, urinary tract infections, and blockage of the urinary tract.
If the stone is too large to pass easily, pain continues as the muscles in the wall of the tiny ureter try to squeeze the stone along into the bladder.

 Stones of Blood
The Stones of Blood opens with druids Leonard De Vries and co. dancing naked round a fire (well, wandering about in a studio Stonehenge with torches, anyway), worshipping a Celtic goddess who (surprise surprise) turns out to be an alien.
What would appear to be a Hinchcliffian strain (cults, blood, sacrifices) in a Graham Williams story is quickly dispensed with, as the vengeful Callieach -- alias Cessair of Diplos -- disposes of her wonderfully mediocre worshippers.
Stones is a blend of Hinchcliffe horror and Williams humour; the two flavours complement one another in a tasty little story.

Blood in the urine (hematuria) may also appear when a stone is present.
Blood is obtained to check on overall kidney function as well as to exclude signs of infection throughout the body.
Stone size, the number of stones and their location are perhaps the most important factors in deciding the appropriate treatment for a patient with kidney stones.

A stone causing obstruction in the upper ureter or renal pelvis leads to flank pain (pain in the side, between the ribs and the hip) or tenderness.
A stone obstructing the lower portion of the ureter causes pain in the lower abdomen that may radiate to the genitals.
Hematuria (blood in the urine), flank pain, and a history of acute onset are particularly suggestive of a kidney stone.

Renal colic is the name given to an intermittent, but often very severe, abdominal pain which is most commonly caused by a tiny stone passing down the ureter, which is the tube which connects the kidney to the bladder.
Stones may be associated with high calcium or uric acid levels in the blood, with urinary tract infections or, less commonly, with the formation of cysts in the kidney.
Stones which are too large to travel down the ureter can continue to grow in the kidney.

Thank you for your inquiry. The signs and symptoms of kidney are varied according to the type of stone, the size of the stone and the location of the stone.
Kidney stones resting up in the kidney often do not produce trauma to the GU tract and thus the urinalysis may be negative.
Uric acid stones are on the other end of the spectrum and are radiolucent often are not easily seen on a plain X-ray.

Main symptom of kidney stones is a pain in the lower and middle back (kidney area, or spine), but as that pain can be excruciating, some people may feel the pain in different parts of their body.
Blood flows into a network of capillaries surrounding each tubule from the glomerulus where substances that the body still needs such as water and certain salts are restored to the blood.
The purified blood is then returned to general circulation throughout the body and waste in the form of urine passes through the ureter into the bladder.

Such was the situation during the Stones' 1973 European tour, when Richards needed to kick a heroin addiction quickly and underwent a treatment in Switzerland that lead to rumors he had undergone the human equivalent of an automotive oil change and beat his drug habit by having all his blood replaced.
The "blood change" claim is almost certainly untrue, because Richards himself says he made up the story, no real evidence supports it, and such a procedure is medically questionable in terms of both safety and effectiveness.

The Stones Of Blood enjoyed two studio sessions, the first lasting two days beginning on Monday, July 3rd and the second running three days beginning on Sunday, July 16th.
(It would later be noted that The Stones Of Blood was also Doctor Who's one hundredth serial.) This was then expanded by Blake, and involved Romana and K-9 surprising the Doctor with a cake and a new scarf (identical to his old scarf) in honour of his 751st birthday.

THE STONES OF BLOOD was never one of my favorite stories, but thanks to its recent release on DVD I've had time to rewatch it and reevaluate it.
We begin the adventure with a story about modern-day druids practicing blood sacrifices to their weird god, but by the time we reach the ending, this has been completely discarded in favor of Tom Baker fooling around in a barrister's wig.
Despite their obvious limitations, the eponymous Stones actually manage to be genuinely creepy as they stalk their way noisily through the English countryside.

The Rolling Stones may seem cute and cuddly now - sort of - but there was a time when their "Bad Boys of Rock" title packed more than a cartoonish wallop.
One album that best exemplified the Stones' debauched and dangerous side was 1969's "Let It Bleed" - the album the band featured most prominently in their show last night at Madison Square Garden.
Still, over the course of the three-hour, 22-song set, the Stones were marvelous, especially the blistering interplay between Richards guitarist Ron Wood.

It is possible to have blood in urine(hematuria) from kidney stones.
If it is unclear that your hematuria is due to a kidney stone, he or she should order studies to rule out other causes.
Some of the causes are kidney stones; inflammation or infection; trauma; tumors; bleeding from prostate veins; blood clotting problems; and abnormal blood vessels.
