Movie Review - Goddess of 1967, The - eFilmCritic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The Goddess of 1967 has garnered awards from several international film festivals, and it's not difficult to understand why: after a diet of soporific Russian tedium and detached German nihilism, its comparative accessibility will soothe the soul of many a glassy-eyed festival attendee.
Kurokawa is largely inscrutable, appearing as if his face might shatter under the strain of a smile, though he is occasionally afforded the opportunity to evoke some measure of emotion from the viewer (his sense of wonder on first viewing the Goddess is especially memorable).
The Goddess of 1967 is not that film, for it's akin to a sketch that captures the underlying appeal of something truly beautiful, but its aspirations are not entirely unrealised - there are moments when, as the title suggests, it borders on the divine.

Movies aren't made for tuxedos.' But it did not matter one iota what the stuffed shirts, or even that first audience of regular people, thought.
From the opening, during the cold New York winter of 1967, the queues extending round the block outside Manhattan cinemas consisted mostly of young people hugging themselves and each other, and stamping their feet to keep warm, full of the expectation-of seeing a movie that addressed them and their problems.

Though Camus steadfastly refused to allow it, or any of his other books, to be made into a movie, his widow finally sold the film rights to Italian Producer Dino De Laurentiis on condition that the director be Luchino Visconti (The Leopard, Rocco and His Brothers).
Visconti's film of The Stranger follows the action of the novel with hardly a comma missing—and therein lies both its strength and its weakness.

About time we got a movie that has something to it but sex and trash...This is just good to see.
Based on the story of New Zealand motorcycle builder and racer Munro--here shown running an amazing race on his ancient Indian Scout motorcycle at Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967 at the age of 68--it plays a little corny but only because the facts are corny-sounding to begin with.
The real-life Burt, according to the record (which the movie somewhat alters), was a crusty, stubborn old guy, something of a geriatric lady-killer and an in-your-face combatant for all seasons.

 Metromix. Movie review: 'Capote'
This is a movie about two worlds, the one Capote comes from and the one he comes to know on an all-access visitors' pass, virtually unthinkable in today's journalism.
There's a scene in "Magnolia" where Hoffman, playing a male nurse, is talking to another actor and after a second or two you realize he's standing not in profile but instead with his body angled straight toward the camera.
The movie's excellence, a stylistic world apart from the strikingly photographed but rather hysterical 1967 film version of Capote's masterwork, is in capturing its subject without pinning him down.
