Still, trial lawyers spend the majority of their time outside the courtroom, conducting research, interviewing clients and witnesses, and handling other details in preparation for a trial.
Lawyers may specialize in a number of areas, such as bankruptcy, probate, international, or elder law.
In criminal law, lawyers represent individuals who have been charged with crimes and argue their cases in courts of law.

 Review: The Street Lawyer
Within two weeks Brock has given up the fast track to become a lawyer for street people: a voice, he is told, for those who don't have one.
The homeless are close to the streets, to the pavement, the curbs and gutters, the concrete, the litter, the sewer lids and fire hydrants and wastebaskets and bus stops and storefronts.
They move slowly over familiar terrain, day after day, stopping to talk to each other because time means little, stopping to watch a stalled car in traffic, a new drug dealer on a corner, a strange face on their turf.

 The Street Lawyer
Now, most lawyers go on to practice in a pretty dull routine – surrounded by wills and land titles, they spend their days buried in more paper than a recycling centre.
Unfortunately "The Street Lawyer" is not written with the sort of legitimacy that attracts the passion of the reader.
After all, they will take offence at the depiction of "street lawyers", particularly when it is written by a multi-millionaire author who hasn't seen the inside of a courtroom for yonks.

Alternative Billing for the "Main Street Lawyer"
The lawyer cannot give an exact quote when the number of total hours to be expended is unknown to the lawyer, as well as the client.
The experienced lawyer knows that if an average fee is mentioned, the client will focus on that number as “the fee.” If the lawyer quotes an estimate of $2,000, the lawyer will view a final total billing of $2,165 to be right on target.
Lawyers know they will treat a client fairly, but they also want to make sure they are not treated unfairly by working many extra hours without additional compensation.

The Street Lawyer by John Grisham, tells the story of 31-year old Michael Brock, a hard-charging associate at a prominent Washington D.C. law firm.
It is a combination between Grisham's usual style, law suspense, and a new one to him: a gut-wrenching tale of the lives of the homeless.
The Street Lawyer is a refreshing new style, and a masterpiece on multiple levels.

heat death of the universe: John Grisham's "The Street Lawyer"   (Site not responding. Last check: )
In The Street Lawyer, the protagonist is a high powered lawyer (surprise!) who undergoes an experience that causes him to reject his pursuit of money, prestige, power, etc. Instead, he becomes a low-paid advocate for the homeless.
Toward the beginning of his change of heart, the protagonist is afraid of the homeless and of the bad parts of D.C. As he gains more experience with the homeless, however, he begins to see them as individuals and loses his fear.
The flaw in the street lawyer, was it lacked a main emotion, there was not a stressed drama, or a extreme tenstion, which has created some of the best writtings we have ever seen, in example the book "To Kill A Mockingbird", there was a central issue of race, and equalness throughout the book.

JOHN GRISHAM’S ninth novel, The Street Lawyer, follows the basic formula of his other bestsellers, taking a jaded lawyer disillusioned with the American system of justice and--through a series of dire and not always believable events--leading him back to his original idealism through the true promise of those same institutions.
It's no coincidence that The Street Lawyer, which turns on money, race and power, is set in Washington, D.C. That is not to say the novel is introspective.
In The Street Lawyer, the question is not who is guilty or whether someone is guilty but how to prove it.

THE STREET LAWYER & THE RUNAWAY JURY
In his current best seller, The Street Lawyer, Grisham admits that before writing this book he had not worried too much about the plight of the homeless until he found his way to a Washington DC Legal Clinic for the Homeless, which raised his level of consciousness.
Michael Brock, a Yale Law School graduate and rising star in Drake and Sweeney, a Washington, DC law firm with 800 lawyers, was taken hostage on his way to his sixth floor office by a street bum who was riding the elevator with him.
As a lawyer for the homeless, he represents the street people, such as DeVon Hardy, who have been evicted as squatters, but in fact were paying tenants.

Notes: The Street Lawyer   (Site not responding. Last check: )
John Grisham’s The Street Lawyer is little more than an advocate for the homeless masquerading as a legal thriller — or maybe it’s a legal thriller hidden behind the mask of homeless advocacy.
This story is about a lawyer who is almost killed by a homeless man and then quits a very high paying job at a huge law firm in D.C. to almost go broke helping the homeless.
Oh, I almost forgot: he uncovers a somewhat sinister plot by his former employer, although a bad lawyer or two were the only ones who knew about it, so it’s not as if a huge conspiracy existed.
