The Sum of All Fears is clearly geared towards a more pedestrian audience, perhaps because of the potential horde of mainstream players who will be enamored with the film.
The Sum of All Fears is really the first title in awhile that is based on an actual piece of Clancy fiction.
With some reduced physics and helper aids, that’s what The Sum of All Fears is in the tactical first person shooter genre; foregoing a little realism, incorporating some refinements, but still touching on the fun of elite special ops.

Sum of All Fears follows the movie only so far as the general idea (a loose nuke), and hones in on one aspect of the movie's action to create a game.
So, you can imagine that for all the other functions in the game like strafe, change item or character, aim manually, perform an action or look at the map you'll be using combinations of the buttons and the shoulder pads.

The Sum of All Fears game is scheduled to be released to coincide with film at the end of the month, and like the film, will reinvent some of the Clancy universe.
The basic plot of the movie and game differs slightly from the book, but essentially involves a terrorist act beyond imagination, one that could actually trigger a major global war as a result.
A build of the game already shows the refinements that have been made, and although Sum of All Fears is using the Ghost Recon engine, the results are quite impressive.

The Sum of All Fears may be a poor excuse for a movie tie-in, but it's a forgivable one as a fun introductory course to one of the greatest game franchises of all time.
The Sum of All Fears is a Tom Clancy game without his support.  His name is nowhere to be found and for good reason.  This game is downright terrible.  First off the game assumes that everyone playing it is a five year old.  Just because it is...
Overall Thoughts: The Sum of All Fears would be a great introductory title for an inexperienced gamer, or someone looking to try out a squad-based shooter.

The game lacks depth and graphical/AI polish - but the overall game play remains engaging thanks to the intensity of the one-shot/one-kill game play controlled by an easy-to-handle interface.
This pop-up menu interface thankfully pauses the game when activated, allowing the player time to consider whether it would be better to have a grenade lead the charge into an enemy-occupied room.
At times, this causes the game to drift into a routine of see door/open door/peek/reload/see door again/send team to open door/etc.; there was a point where SoAF reminded me of the ancient Hogan's Alley NES game.

To sum up the gameplay in The Sum of All Fears, it's a stripped down version of Ghost Recon.
Because this is based on a movie, fans that do not play PC games on a normal basis may go out and purchase this just because of its relation to the motion picture.
While The Sum of All Fears certainly looks good and has lots of action, it ends up loosing some of the "realism" that was present in previous Tom Clancy games.
