 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Temple
Consequently, according to his theory, the temples were so placed that on the day settled on the calendar as the birthday and feast day of the god the rays of the rising sun fell along the axis of the temple and thus also on his statue.
The temples of the mysteries were used by the initiated for the celebration of the secret cults, and differed from others, so far as the scanty remains permit a judgment, both in extent and form.
Although the temple contained several chambers within, yet this fact exercised no actual influence on its external construction, while in the Christian church, either of the Romanesque or of the Gothic style, the interior arrangement is easily recognized from the external construction.

 Tobold's MMORPG Blog: WoW Journal - 8-February-2006
As the Sunken Temple of Atal`Hakkar is in the Swamp of Sorrows, on the same continent as UC, but the other continent from Tanaris, I decided to do that hand-in another time, and we headed for the dungeon immediately.
What I did get in the Sunken Temple was lots of xp, 2 quests cleared, plus the 1 mini-quest where you just have to carry the essence of Eranikus to the brazier next to him, and most importantly the blood of Morphaz to hand in for my level 50 priest class quest.
Then Thursday I plan to do the Sunken Temple again, for the remaining quests, for hopefully some loot, and because the place is just plain fun.

Mark Moxon, Travel Writer: India: Varanasi
Varanasi's core is also its least interesting area, so let's dispense with it quickly: if you want a train ticket or a bank, go to the Cantonment, otherwise you're better off hanging out in the two other main areas of town.
Varanasi is built along the west bank of the Ganges, which, in an attempt to avoid the hills to the east in Bihar, turns north towards the Ghaghara River; this means that the river flows north at Varanasi, against all intuition, and Varanasi is perched on the west bank, facing into the sunrise.
Varanasi isn't just a city with lots of ghats and temples, it's a seriously holy place, so holy in fact that dying and having your body dumped in the Ganges here is so auspicious that it's a guaranteed way of getting to heaven.
