Sydney band The Sunnyboys remain one of the most highly regarded and best-loved bands of the Australian 'post-punk' era.
Essentially The Sunnyboys wore their influences on their sleeve; The Remains, The Flamin' Groovies, The Kinks and The Beatles with a dash of Detroit muscle thrown in for good measure.
In late 1987, Jeremy Oxley attempted to revive The Sunnyboys with a new line-up.

Richard Burgman of the Sunnyboys at the I-94 Bar
Short-lived but incredibly influential, Sydney's Sunnyboys were one of the first 1980s Australian bands to bridge the commercial gap between inner-city hipness and a wider audience.
The Sunnyboys' debut show in 1980 (a paring with the Lipstick Killers) was a runaway success and they never looked back.
Two live albums and a best of have appeared since the band ground to a halt in 1984, but with the release of "This is Real" - a double CD on Feelpresents that showcases all the A and B sides, rarities and a host of live tunes - has the full story been told.

The Sunnyboys are one of the great nearly-weres of Australian music.
Promoter and Australian music obsessive Tim Pittman has lovingly compiled 'This Is Real,' a collection of The Sunnyboys' singles and b-sides (many appearing on CD for the first time) alongside a disc of live material.
There are the hits (Alone With You, Happy Man, The Seeker, Show Me Some Discipline), there are little heard gems (Guts Of Iron) and songs that hint toward the broader scope the band might have taken had there been a future (the Stax stomp of late-period b-side Bottom Of My Heart).

For a while there, The Sunnyboys were one of the biggest bands in the country.
Drummer Bil Bilson is on the phone from his northern NSW home and sounds a little bemused to be doing interviews again.
It's not the easiest thing for the band to talk about (in fact, my initial interview was to be with bassist Peter Oxley, Jeremy's brother, who had found the interviews too emotionally fraught and had subsequently sworn off doing any more) and Bilson speaks very carefully about his former bandmate.

The Sunnyboys cut across the indie/major barriers (which were a lot more defined back then) because they straddled largely unoccupied turf.
The point about the farewell live album that the Sunnyboys released in 1984 (imaginatively titled “Sunnyboys Live”) is that it showed the band in final days/horn-driven mode.

Citadel Records Australia: Mailorder: CDs - Sunnyboys This Is Real - Singles/Live/Rare
To witness the Sunnyboys performing at any number of pubs, clubs or festivals in Australia during the early eighties was to experience one of this country's great live acts.
They were Jeremy's songs all right, but the band was very much the sum of its considerable parts, ruling the roost in inner city Sydney as well as throughout much of greater regional Australia.
Culled for the most part from their first album sessions, songs like Guts of Iron and Stop and Think were A-sides in anyone else's language, but for Jeremy, whose gift was in full flood, they were just more seemingly effortless 'dance' tracks that didn't make the cut.

Formed in the regional Victorian area of LaTrobe Valley sometime in the early 90's, Jericho was the first recording outfit for one of Australia's finest & most respected Power Pop solo singer / songwriters, Danny McDonald (P76 / The Stoneage Hearts / Oscarlima).
Although they existed at a time when America's "Grunge" explosion had consumed the large majority of Australia's original music scene, Jericho sported a unique take on the country's rich heritage of classic guitar based Power Pop, recalling the likes of The Sunnyboys, The Hoodoo Gurus, The Stems, and Paul Kelly.
Relentless & extensive touring up & down Australia's East Coast, supported by 4 classic & now highly collectable EP releases earned Jericho a reputation that has survived and consistently grown to this very day.
