A modern grimoire is the Simon Necronomicon, named after a fictional book of magic in the stories of author H.P. Lovecraft, and inspired by Sumerian mythology and the Ars Goetia, a section in the Lesser Key of Solomon which concerns the summoning of demons.
In that film, the book was separated into three sets of pages that, when united, would reveal a long-secret, "true" name of God (the utterance of which would lead to the uncreation of the world).
In the fantasy book Torments of the Traitor (published as The Fate of the Fallen in the UK) by Ian Irvine, one of the central characters uses a grimoire to perform the dangerous and morally ambiguous Art of "renewal" on himself.

For instance, the so-called "Sworn Book of Honorius" mentions Araton (sic) as one of the angels of the first month.
The book suggests that the best time for this is at sunrise, but in my opinion any matching planetary hour should work well.

He's a purist, and, tо his considerable credit, seems to find it incredulous that grimоirеs (most of which were essentially student notebooks, copied word for word much as nоtеs from a physics lecture) would include deliberate "blinds", especially of such complicated varieties.
