The plot of the King/Straub novel is not a reworking of the earlier Walter Scott book also titled The Talisman, although there is one oblique reference to "a Sir Scott Walter Scott novel".
Accompanied by a werewolf named Wolf and his friend Richard, Jack must retrieve the Talisman before it falls in the hands of his deceased father's evil accomplice Morgan Sloat.

Talisman is easy to understand and can be played by all the family, combining many fantasy game themes with the luck and tactics of a traditional board game.
Talisman City returned the adventure to the Talisman world, providing a board and cards that recreated an entire fantasy city, filled with plenty of places for the players to spend the gold they had collected on their adventures.
Soon after the release of Talisman we were deluged with letters from players asking for new cards and characters, or suggesting their own ideas for the game.

Talisman - The background by Bob Harris
I have no idea what plans there may be for Talisman in the future, but it is difficult to believe that a game which has proved so successful all over the world will not one day return to delight a new generation of gamers.
Production of the finished Talisman game had been running behind schedule so that all I had seen of it up until now were some black and white xeroxes of the artwork.
Workshop produced another in-house expansion set called 'The Talisman Adventure', which was unfortunately filled with errors that could easily have been avoided if they had allowed me the opportunity to edit it.
