The Pooh stories were later made into a series of Winnie the Pooh (without hyphens) featurettes by Walt Disney Productions, which became one of the company's most successful franchises.
The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet by Benjamin Hoff use Milne's characters in an effort to explain the Eastern Philosophy/Religion of Taoism in a more accessible way.
Pooh also is the number one Disney Character in the Philippines for 2005 with Disney Princess at number two followed by The Incredibles, Buzz Lightyear and Mickey Mouse.

Ink 19 :: Cat Dissections :: The Tao of Pooh Too
As Pooh and Piglet got closer, they saw that Eeyore's tail was actually tied 'round his neck, and that that was how he was hanging from the branch of a tree, this fine summer morning.
Pooh watched Christopher Robin dying and thought to himself, "Well, I guess this is the way of things." And then the Universe began to come apart at the seams, collapsing all around him.
Pooh's consciousness began evaporating with Christopher Robin's last breath, and with that last bit of conscious energy, Pooh thought to himself, "Oh bother." And his body collapsed on the ground like a lifeless, cotton stuffed, child's toy.

The Tao of Pooh (ISBN 0140067477):   Very Well Said™
The Tao of Pooh approaches the wisdom and (sometimes) backwards philosophy involved in Taoism using understandable scenarios involving Pooh and his pals in the hundred acre wood.
The Tao of Pooh is, I believe, an attempt at presenting the philosophy of Taoism in an entertaining and cute way using the familiar, and entertaining-in-themselves, characters of Winnie the Pooh.
Pooh, in his journey through the Tao, with the Tao, of the Tao (it is a hard one to nail down, isn't it?) encounters many.

Briefly, Taoism is a way of living in harmony with Tao, the Way of the Universe, the character of which is revealed in the workings of the natural world.
Pooh had now splashed across the stream to Eeyore, and Piglet was sitting a little way off, his head in his paws, snuffling to himself.
Pooh and Piglet’s gifts to Eeyore show us another important aspect of Lao-tse’s teaching: T’zu, which can be translated as caring or compassion.

The writings in the Tao Te Ching focus mainly on the nature of life, the path to peace, and the ways that a ruler should lead his life.
Primarily speaking, however, Taoists believe that Tao is the universal life force or the underlying nature of all things that exist in the world.
Books such as "The Tao of Pooh" and "The Te of Piglet" by Benjamin Hoff have also helped to popularize the main tenets of Taoism and apply them to a western style of living.

The Tao of Pooh boils the Taoist faith down into simple truths, each using Pooh and his friends to explain them in easy, bite-sized pieces.
The result is a charming explanation of faith that even Pooh -- a notorious bear of little brain -- can understand, particularly since he exemplifies the Taoist way so perfectly.
While much of the slim book is written in the childlike prose of a Pooh story, it is still surprisingly deep, thought-provoking and grown-up at its root.

If you have any desire to know what this text or Taoism is pointing to, just pick up a copy of "the Tao Speaks" or "the Tao of Pooh"; both are really accessible and light-weight, but much closer to the heart of the TTC than these crap spewings.
But the Tao's passages on emptiness are some of my favorite, emptiness and nothingness are neither empty nor nothing, and Clatfelter doesn't exactly put me off by getting carried away here and there.
I think Tao can be very easy to grasp, and I heartily recommend "The Tao of Pooh" whicc everyone has heard of, and "The Tao Speaks" which is the TTC turned into a comic book.
