Anne Bronte - Free Online Library
In 1839, she worked for a short period as a governess to the Inghams at Blake Hall and later in same position to the Robinsons at Thorpe Green Hall near York from 1840 to 1845.
Branwell drank himself into physical decline and died suddenly in September 1848 - Anne's novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, in which one of the central characters is an alcoholic, appeared in the same year.
Her second novel, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, was published in 1848 in three volumes and sold well.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is the second of her novels (after Agnes Grey) and was published a year before her death, in 1848.
Wildfell Hall is narrated by a young farmer, Gilbert Markham, and the story initially focuses upon his love for Helen Graham.
Gilbert discredits local gossip that begins about Helen, the new tenant, and her landlord Lawrence due to their friendship but subsequently hears the two talking intimately and beats Lawrence uncompromisingly.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte: A searchable online version at The Literature Network
Anne Bronte's second novel is a passionate and courageous challenge to the conventions supposedly upheld by Victorian society and reflected in circulating-library fiction.
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is compelling in its imaginative power, the realism and range of its dialogue, and its psychological insight into the characters involved in a marital battle.
I feel that the Tennant of Wildfell Hall stands alone as great literature, and should not be judged on the basis of how it promotes ones socio-political agenda (feminism), a proposition which is doubtfull in itself.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, a novel by Anne Brontë, is concerned with the story of a woman who leaves her abusive, dissolute husband, and who must then support herself and her young son.
Originally published around 1848, it challenged the prevailing morals of the time; a critic went so far as to pronounce it "utterly unfit to be put into the hands of girls".

 The Critics of Wildfell Hall
A number of contemporary critics have recognized The Tenant of Wildfell Hall as a landmark feminist text, but it had long been unfavorably compared with the works of Anne's more celebrated sisters, Charlotte and Emily.
For her own part, Gérin makes the unconvincing argument that the didactic nature of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall precludes it from having literary merit: "It was written too obviously as a work of propaganda, a treatise against drunkenness, to be considered a work of art" (Gérin 39).
However, although The Tenant of Wildfell Hall has received a significant amount of critical censure, it has also gained attention for its surprising radicalism.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne Brontë's second (and last) novel, was published in June 1848, less than a year before her death.
Anne Bronte's second novel, 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall', shows that she had much more to offer than what we can see in 'Agnes Grey' (another great book written by Anne).
'The Tenant' is suprisingly quite modern in content, it is about a woman who leaves her husband because he is violent, drunk, keeps mistresses and tries to corrupt their child.

Graham called at Linden-Car, contrary to the expectation of Rose, who entertained an idea that the mysterious occupant of Wildfell Hall would wholly disregard the common observances of civilized life, - in which opinion she was supported by the Wilsons, who testified that neither their call nor the Millwards' had been returned as yet.

Compelling in its imaginative power and bold naturalism, the novel opens in the autumn of 1827, when a mysterious woman who calls herself Helen Graham seeks refuge at the deso-late moorland mansion of Wildfell Hall.
Bronte's enigmatic heroine becomes the object of gossip and jealousy as neighbors learn she is escaping from an abusive marriage and living under an assumed name.
A daring story that exposed the dark brutality of Victorian chauvinism, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall was nevertheless attacked by some critics as a celebration of the same excesses it criticized.

Anne Bronte's minor classic, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, is of much more than minor interest in this audio presentation creditably read by Juliet Stevenson.
The youngest of literary Brontes presents us with a wonderful heroine, the mysterious, beautiful Helen, the reclusive new tenant of Wildfell Hall who arouses cruel gossip from the local ladies.
Only Gilbert Markham, her neighbor and quickly her ardent admirer and defender, discovers the truth of her desperate circumstances, her courage in the face of calamity, her noble resolve.
