Born on Saturn's moon Titan, Thanos is a mutant with purple-grey, hide-like skin and a massive body.
In 2003, Thanos received his own ongoing series; it was originally written and illustrated by Jim Starlin, but as of #7 Keith Giffen took over until its ending with #12.
Thanos appeared in three episodes of the Silver Surfer animated series on the FOX Network: "The End of Eternity," "Battlecry," and "Soul Hunter." In this version, Thanos worships the female personafication of Chaos, due to Fox's refusal to allow any use of the word 'death' in their children's programming.

The Thanos Quest is a two issue miniseries, written by Jim Starlin, containing the first appearance of the Infinity Gauntlet.
In the Thanos Quest, Thanos stole the six Infinity Gems from the Elders of the Universe that guarded the gems.
Thanos, the last boss, weilds the Infinity Gauntlet during the final battle, with Doctor Doom appearing as another boss.

The story begins in media res (at least, if you haven't read Thanos Quest), (and one day your humble host NWJ will write an article on stories that work equally well if you drop the first few parts and assume they began in media res).
You know, incidentally, that if Thanos were in the universe of Chaos Comics, all he'd have to do is wipe out all life on Earth, and he'd have (Lady) Death in the sack two minutes later.

Thanos sits on a dead planet, brooding, and before long, he's joined by his one-time enemy and sometime ally, Adam Warlock.
While Starlin makes it clear that Thanos has reached a turning point, the real emphasis here is to familiarize readers with the character's origins, adventures and past motives.
Thanos boasts a rather contrived background, and Starlin does a good job of making it as succinct as possible.

Not a HUGE fan of Thanos but the current "The End" story line idea is kinda cool, but I'm going to wait for the TPB in any case.
There are no other Thanos trades that I know of; he does appear in the Infinity Gauntlet and Avengers: Celestial Madonna trades, FYI.
What you really want is 'Ka-Zar' #12 (I think its the third series, circa the late 90's) wherein Ka-Zar defeats Thanos at hand-to-hand combat, despite Ka-Zar being merely a regular, garden variety human athlete and Thanos being a demigod who can handily defeat the likes of Thor and the Silver Surfer without breaking a sweat.

The only time it found producing full color art profitable was on THE THANOS QUEST, which sold thru two printings despite being on shitty paper.
I think I did it on THANOS QUEST, in which we (Ron Lim) and I made a concious choice to not ink in a lot of the backrounds and paint them instead to give the illusion of an animation cel.
Also, in cases like SPAWN or THANOS QUEST where the color plays such an important role in the overall art, I think the color artist is every bit (if not more) important than the inker, and is therefore deserving of equal pay and royalties (if not more).

Maybe it’s because it was the first of the recent series of Starlin-Thanos-cosmic-brouhaha events, which have taken on a desperately repetitive nature over the last decade.
Whatever the reason, the whole Thanos gets omnipotent power and then dukes it out with both Earth’s mightiest heroes and the various Marvel cosmic critters schtick still feels fresh here — as does the revelation that Thanos is ultimately self-destructive and loses omnipotence every time he gets hold of it.
Regardless, this book — and it’s two antecedents, The Rebirth of Thanos and The Thanos Quest — are just a blast to read eveyr now and again.
