At prison, we see the guards telling the Thief of Baghdad 'Abou' that his arms and feet are going to be cut off, and after this his head (which is not really the punishment for stealing in the Islamic Shariaa').

0 George Bush, the Thief of Baghdad Petition
He has robbed the Baghdad, he has demolished the buildings, he has robbed the banks, he has ravaged the buildings, he has savaged the homes, he is not small, he is huge very big, Thief, the cause of all Grief.
Also this thief of Baghdad is one of the super idiots of the industry of thieves because as we can see it, when he robbed Baghdad, it was day and when he did anything else he was uncovered.
Because the Thief of Baghdad was not fit for being certified as a thief, this thief left clues and demarcations behind.

For many, generator man is the new thief of Baghdad - Africa & Middle East - International Herald Tribune
Haggard employees drag themselves in and slump into their chairs, moaning about what a bad night's sleep they had: The power went out, the backup generator was broken, the heat was unbearable, the baby would not stop crying, mosquitoes were everywhere.
Throughout Baghdad, for example, there is at least one generator every few blocks to help power nearby homes and businesses.
Firas, 19, a university student who lives in Saidiya, another Baghdad neighborhood, and who asked that his last name not be published, said his generator man fiddled with the wires that lead to the homes of customers who offended him, causing interruptions to the service, or decreasing the current.

DVD Savant Review: The Thief of Bagdad
A visual and sonic swirl of 1001 delights, The Thief of Bagdad is not a remake of the silent Fairbanks film, but an entire rewrite from the pen of Miles Malleson, who we know better as a familiar character actor in dozens of English classics.
The maturity of The Thief of Bagdad lies in its lack of dull moralizing: the world is full of thieves of all kinds, and the story sees no harm in the enterprise of the dispossessed.
Second: While Thief's special effects obviously required a large team to pull off, their design and success are generally credited to expert Ned Mann, whom Korda imported from Hollywood for the production.

Film Reviews - The Thief Of Baghdad   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
An Arabian Nights fantasy adventure on a grand scale, The Thief Of Baghdad is rip-roaring action from start to finish.
A film from a more innocent time, it features an energetic and enthusiastic performance from the young Sabu as a lowly thief (from Baghdad) who befriends a wrongly-deposed king and helps him to regain his rightful position.
Sabu consistently out-acts everyone else in the movie (with the exception of Rex Ingram's bombastic and imposing genie), but we don't care: The Thief of Baghdad is an old-fashioned romp of a film and immensely enjoyable to watch.

He tells how, upon the advice of his vizier Jaffer, he went out into the marketplace in disguise to see what his people thought of him — only to be double-crossed by Jaffer, who then had him arrested and thrown into jail, saying he was mad for claiming to be the prince.
Sabu has a boyish sprightliness and while he is not a great actor still manages to communicate an enormous degree of exuberance on screen.
In fact, this version of the film splits the Fairbanks role in two — with the young Sabu inheriting the thief half, and the romantic element being carried by the impossibly handsome John Justin.
