 The Thing
Quentin Tarantino has called "The Thing" one of his favorite movies of all-time and the basic premise of "Reservoir Dog"--someone who is not what he appears to be-- was definitely influenced by this film.
Carpenter used all the great techniques that he accumulated through his many years of independent filmmaking ("The Thing" was JC first big budget studio film) and with his vision truly made a film for the fans.
The Thing was the first film that Carpenter directed where he did not write the script.

This film was known in its original United States release as Godzilla Vs. the Thing (American International Pictures, which released the film in the US, kept Mothra's appearance a secret in all promotional material, referring to it as "The Thing") and later released simply as Godzilla vs Mothra (in the 1980s for video release).
This was originally an accident; In filming of the scene where Godzilla smashes into the Nagoya Castle, the actor in the suit (Haruo Nakajima) fell, and the suit's head slammed into the castle, loosening the teeth.
Mothra vs Godzilla (モスラ対ゴジラ - Mosura tai Gojira) is a tokusatsu kaiju film, and the 4th Godzilla film, produced by Toho Company Ltd. in 1964.

Horrordvds.com Forum - An ALIEN film, or THE THING?
Alien has some brilliant suspenseful moments like the chestburster scene, but the last half of the film breaks down to familiar slasher routines (although Alien predates many slashers which kind of gets you thinking) while The Thing retains a level of unpredictability all the way through.
Of course, having to choose between The Thing, Alien, or Aliens is ridiculous, because all three of these films are fantastic, and deserve a place in your library.
03-24-2001 12:48 AM While Carpenter's "The Thing" is among his better work (and a great film in general), I don't think it can touch "Alien" or "Aliens".

There are some OK extras on this but the film is th main thing, great quality picture and sound, and you need it with a film like this to appreciate it fully of its brilliance.
Although the title of the film may give the impression that this is just another cheesy, old fashioned sci-fi horror, this film in trulu original and brilliant.

 The Thing (1982)
Just to put things in perspective for you before I get into my thoughts on this film, I am only 20 years old and have grown up in the era of CGI, blue screen effects...and this movie was made around the same time i was born.
The movie is an update of the classic 'The Thing From Outer Space', but only like it's predecessor, this film is in full color, and the characters of this film have much more to worry about than an alien veggie
With that said, WOW, I only recently saw John Carpenter's version of 'The Thing', and what a masterpiece it truly is. I have long since been a fan of John Carpenter, in particular his works from the late 70's and 80's.

 ALIEN
The story for “Alien” (1979) was originally conceived by Dan O'Bannon in the summer of 1972 as two separate script ideas, and only later evolved, after numerous revisions and rewrites, into the blueprint for the highly successful film.
"’Alien’ is like a gothic horror film in space," author Dan O'Bannon first explained his original concept for the motion picture nearly twenty-five years ago.
H.R. Giger's incredible imagination for things that are both strange and frightening is largely responsible for “Alien’s” most important element, the innovative design of the creature itself.

Comics & Graphic Novels - General - Review - A Favourite Thing: Comics
I suppose film is the thing that comics are closest to, but comics have advantages over films (just as films have advantages over comics).
A comic adaptation of The Godfather would be as different to the book and the film as they are to each other, even though they would all be telling the same story.
Comics, at the end of the day, are just another way to tell stories, just like prose or film or theatre.

The really offensive thing is that it cost several million dollars just to recreate Auschwitz for a 10-minute scene, and this was the dumbest thing about the film, and the most thoughtless thing I've seen in a Hollywood movie the whole year.
The film that won Cannes the year before, Rosetta by the Dardenne brothers was one of the films that made me think old-school social realism could still do the stuff.
Wim Wenders' Million Dollar Hotel was one of the worst films of the year, Jane Campion likewise with Holy Smoke.

It's not the Thing from the Fantastic Four, but instead is a video game based off of the 1981 horror film, John Carpenter's The Thing.
Doing things like taking a blood test in front of them will allay their fears, and giving them a weapon so that they can cap you if you're an alien also will calm them down.
The game does do a good job to stay accurate with the film, it just doesn't do a good job incorporating the film into a really good game.

Stitching the film together from an uneven screenplay, director Chris Koch (“Snow Day”) doesn’t understand where to take “A Guy Thing” from scene to scene.
The finest moments in “A Guy Thing” are the scenes in which we see the title in action, as various strangers and family help Paul try to cover his deceitful tracks as he figures out whether he was actually unfaithful to Karen.
These are honestly funny moments, and uphold a kind of initial originality the film probably had during its early development.

Cruise is unsympathetic in the role of David, as the audience never cares about his character, as despite everything, he remains the same self-centered individual throughout the film.

DVD Times - A Guy Thing
A Guy Thing is a remarkably stale comedy, and whilst MGM have backed it up with an array of extras, they by no means justify a purchase.
Without spoiling the plot, A Guy Thing follows the predictable route of such movies, every little mishap conspiring to bring the couple together with its “romantic comedy logic”.
As well as the farce element, A Guy Thing also jumps on the latest comedy bandwagon: scatological humour.
