  The Three Caballeros DVD Review
The Three Caballeros is second of these “meat and potatoes” pictures, as Walt called them, and the last of the Latin-based ones.
Caballeros on the other hand, ranges from being like a normal Disney animated cartoon (the sequence with the penguin) to being drastically psychedelic (the entire end sequence).
Released as part of the now discontinued “Walt Disney Gold Classic Collection” line, The Three Caballeros was issued for the first time on DVD in summer 2000.

The Three Caballeros: Gold Classic Collection (1945)
Disney's 7th full-length animated film, The Three Caballeros is a stunning celebration of visual effects, lighthearted dance and lively Latin music.
Three Caballeros also appears in its original theatrical aspect ratio of approximately 1.37:1 on this single-sided, single-layered DVD; the image has not been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.
Ultimately, Three Caballeros is a mildly entertaining program that has some high points but often drags and seems monotonous.

The Three Caballeros probably owes its current less than stellar critical status due to its bucking of many of the clichés that defined the studio’s animated films of its era.
Caballeros’ running time, he’s wide-eyed and drunk on the showcase before him, often getting so caught up in the moment that flashes of gender confusion crop up.
Because the opening two segments feature Donald as he watches short stories that unfold on film, he becomes a surrogate for the viewer by the time his odyssey begins.

Whether they visit the seaside village of Baìa or the capital city, Rio de Janeiro, he's determined to show Donald that his land's greatest treasure might just be the samba.
Both a dance and a musical rhythm, the samba is not unlike José himself: Mix one part bouncy beat, two parts tropical tempo, and three parts Rio romance, and you've got a melody shaken purely for fun.
The third of the Three Caballeros, he treats his pals Donald Duck and José Carioca to a trip through Mexico on his magic serape (Mexican blanket).

"The Three Caballeros" by José Piedra
Joe Carioca is sometimes rebaptized Jose Carioca — as in THE THREE CABALLEROS' "companion" book Donald Duck Sees South America.[15] The role of Carmen Miranda is sometimes played by her sister Aurora — as is the case in THE THREE CABALLEROS.
One would think that after THE THREE CAB ALLERO phenomenon was released to the world, Latin American bonding with the U.S. would never be the same, but U.S.-Latin American film games largely remained libidinally repressed by their audiences.
THE THREE CABALLEROS is framed as a series of packages sent by an undetermined number of "amigo" birds to their long-distance feathered cousins in the United States.

Fantasia is long since in the can, so in 1943, Saludos Amigos is released, followed in 1945 by The Three Caballeros, both utilising a little of the experimental nature of Fantasia.
These films were produced after a goodwill tour of Southern America by Disney and Co. and were in fact underwritten by The American State Department to the tune of $50,000.
However, Caballeros does have its charm and we are introduced to a new character in Panchito, a sombrero wearing, gun-toting rooster with more than a little excitability.
