This temple is one of Korea's 8 special shrines for the Bodhisattva of Compassion, due to a large carving of him on the “Eyebrow Cliff” above it.
One of the three holiest peaks of all Korea during the Goryeo and Joseon Dynasties (10th ~ 19th Centuries); thought to possibly be the mythical Mt. Taebaek-san on which Korea's semi-divine founding-king was born.
