Genetics, environment, and obesity --- HealthandAge   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
A recent study in twins shows that this is not quite the case; it explores the potential interaction between genetic susceptibility to obesity and levels of physical activity.
Finally, analysis was done to determine if participants genetically predisposed to obesity had a differential effect of physical activity on fat mass; the genetic risk was derived from tertiles of body fat, resulting in 67 twins with a low genetic risk and 69 with a high genetic risk.
In the monozygotic twins who were concordant for smoking and hormone use, 1 and 2 hours of moderate-intensity exercise were associated with lesser amounts of 1.0 kg and 1.4 kg of total-body fat, respectively.

The Twins Effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Twins Effect (千機變) is a Hong Kong movie that was released in Hong Kong on June 23, 2003.
The movie was derived from the famous Cantopop duo, Twins, starring both Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi, co-starring actors Edison Chen and Ekin Cheng with a special guest appearance by Jackie Chan.
The Twins Effect gained a lot of popularity mainly from Twins fans, and was then released the DVD in the United States, renamed The Vampire Effect.

Twins started their career in the summer in 2001, and they are well-known for their first song "Tutorial School of Love" (明愛暗戀補習社).
Twins had their first concert in 2002 and three more in 2003, one of which was held in Guangzhou.
At the time when Twins started their singing business, there were very few group singers, of which Beyond was one of the more famous groups.

 The Twins Effect II
Though the 'Twins' return for the sequel, the genre tackled here is completely different; 'Twins Effect II' is a fantastical swordplay flick that takes places thousands of years in the past rather than a modern day comedy horror.
'Twins Effect II' cannot decide whether the narrative should be taken seriously or whether the tone should really be one of parody, while the appearance of two directors behind the lens clearly doesn't help the film's clarity.
Nonetheless, it's unfortunate that the concentration of the film is on the effects and the parochial 'comedy' and not the other virtues that used to be second-nature to Hong Kong cinema.

Twins Effect 2: Blade of the Rose (2004)
When it comes to Twins Effect, sure the first film was cheesy but it was alright popcorn entertainment, without a story at all.
The good news is that Twins Effect 2 is a better movie on a lot of scale - story wise, casting, budget, effects, but the bad news is the most crucial thing in the hype - the action is pretty plain and nothing interesting.
Overall, Twins Effect 2 is a crowd pleaser, along the lines of Twins Effect, while it is a better movie than its predecessor, it is by no means revitalising the HK cinema or breaking new ground, but rather it does a important thing, getting people to watch it.

 The Twins Effect (2003)
Ostensibly, The Twins Effect is an action-comedy about a couple of vampire-killing cuties, with timeouts for comedy and romance, some kickass kung-fu choreography by Donnie Yen, and a mega-publicized cameo by Jackie Chan.
Taller Twin Charlene Choi is Helen, the sister to depressed vampire stalker Reeve, and a wacky sort of a girl.
If The Twins Effect came with any hype at all, it was that two cute girls would be occupying the screen with their enormous heads, and that there'd be some occasional fighting.

 Twins Effect (2003)
The story of Twins Effect is standard and even a little flakey material for a vampire film and wouldn't work nearly as well if not for the combination of quality martial arts and charismatic acting.
The Twins handle themselves well in the action sequences with highlights that include their pole-sparring session and Gillian Chung's final assault against Mickey, but their onscreen charms also help to keep a series of romantic entanglements, as directed by Dante Lam, from becoming tedious.
Twins Effect is the kind of film that is more entertaining that it deserves to be.

The first Twins Effect was a number one grossing film in Hong Kong in 2003, so a follow-up proved to be an easy decision.
Twins 2 marks the debut of Jaycee Chan, son of international martial arts superstar, Jackie Chan, and while the resemblance is there, the physical talent is not, and neither is the comedic ability.
You need to have an extremely low threshold for entertainment to enjoy Twins Effect 2, and suffice it to say, the amount of people who will be blown away by the visual elements here probably rank in the millions around the world.

I know two MZ twins (yeah, anecdotal) about 50 years old, one of whom talks all the time, and one of whom almost never talks.
I'm just using the twin example to argue that establishing "sameness of environment" is an infinitely more difficult task than establishing genetic sameness, even if you do control for all the normal factors usually controlled for.
I'm a twin (not MZ) and my brother and I definitely tended to develop in opposite directions in some ways, just as a way of developing different identities and avoiding conflict.

DVD Review: The Twins Effect: Special Edition
"The Twins Effect" is much more than just a starring vehicle for Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi of the perky pop singing duo, Twins, as it is also a riproaring good time and an adrenalin boost powerful enough to rupture arteries and induce massive heart faliure among people of ailing health.
Donnie Yen is credited as both action choreographer and co-director of "The Twins Effect", and it shows, as this film possesses a style, grace and energy that very few other martial artists and filmmakers out there could possibly bring to a project of this kind.
"The Twins Effect" is most definitely a guilty pleasure, as it is not a cinematic masterpiece nor a raving success among critics, but who the heck gives a damn, cause despite what flaws there may be, it is still an immensely funny, exciting and cool movie that, in all honesty, won me over completely.

A primer on the prediction of dyslexia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Second, the risk alleles identified to date are also present in many children who do not have dyslexia, so their effects may depend on complex interactions or additive influences from other genes and/or the environment.
We have learned from our behavior genetic studies with twins that genetic influences are equally strong for less severe dyslexia, so there are likely to be other risk alleles that have yet to be discovered.
These risk alleles are likely to be numerous and of small average effect in the population with dyslexia, since whole-genome linkage scans for dyslexia have often yielded inconsistent results.

They’re not really twins but one thing they do have in common is they’re both teeny tiny and cute as hell, and by now must be absolutely stinking rich.
The Twins Effect might not be on a par with past greats, but it still has the feel of a Hong Kong film that can never be taken away, and I find great comfort in knowing no other country can make movies the way they do.
The casting for The Twins Effect is a major source of discussion and criticism, as the more talented members are shunted to one side in place of a group of photogenic but less than adept cast.

Twins Effect has two elements that make it an intriguing proposition; it blends yesterday's heroes with today's young upstarts and managing to storm the Hong Kong box office in 2003.
The Twins never seem sure whether they need to say something or just look cute / smile / giggle / scream (I think those are their four main actions).
Unfortunately, getting the Twins to handle their action in an engaging and plausible manner was one bridge too far.

I would rename the evil twin "test-based reform" or more specifically "high-stakes, standardized, test-based reform." The sibling, then, is "authentic, standards-based reform." The defining distinction between them is their respective influence on the instructional core of schooling and on equity issues.
Under the evil twin's (per)version of standards and accountability, we see students retained in grade because of a single test score, and we typically see a corresponding increase in dropout rates where such worst practice is in place.
Although the evil twin purports to be standards-based, it actually flies in the face of research-based standards on the appropriate use of testing.

Whilst there's no doubt that The Twins Effect has the ever so slightest hint of Blade about it the Hong Kong film industry easily beats Hollywood in both the originality and actions stakes.
However, unlike Hollywood and its continual obsession with special effects and lack of storylines, The Twins Effect excels simply by the fact that it has refrained from over using the CGI effects whilst concentrating with the on screen action.

Heritability studies were enabled by data MCG is collecting on 500 pairs of twins - fls and whites, identical and fraternal - to determine whether environmental stress is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Here he appears as if he's Jesus' twin, and he is one who knows secret teaching, which Jesus hasn't given to all other people.
And what you discover as you read the Gospel of Thomas, which you're meant to discover, is that you and Jesus at a deep level are identical twins.
Here Jesus, in effect, turns one toward oneself, and that is really one of the themes of the Gospel of Thomas, that you must go in a sort of a spiritual quest of your own to discover who you are, and to discover really that you are the child of God just like Jesus.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine the value of combining maternal characteristics and measurement of cervical length at 22 to 24 weeks in the prediction of spontaneous early preterm delivery.
Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the effect of maternal demographic characteristics and cervical length on the risk of spontaneous early preterm delivery.
CONCLUSION: In twins, the prediction of spontaneous early preterm delivery by measurement of cervical length at 22 to 24 weeks is not improved by maternal characteristics.

Everything about The Twins Effect II seems carefully calculated by marketing—except maybe the script, which is uninspired and dependent on too many semi-amusing interludes which are meant to pass for actual content.

The special effects are done nicely, although CGI isn't anything I foam at the mouth over, and our leading actresses do a fair enough job.
Before watching the film I didn't really know who 'the twins' were, so there were a few moments in the film where I thought perhaps it was a boy/girl group, but a quick tour around the net proved that wrong.
