The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a film released on December 18, 2002, directed by Peter Jackson, with a runtime of 179 minutes.
The movie was very well received critically[1] and was an enormous box-office success, earning over $900 million worldwide (making it the fourth most successful film in history at the time of its release, ahead of its prequel).
In addition to many characters returning from the first film, The Two Towers features Éowyn, a noble lady of Rohan who yearns to be a warrior; Éomer, a stalwart Marshal of Rohan and brother to Éowyn; Théoden, a troubled king, uncle of Éowyn and Éomer; and his treacherous counsellor, Gríma Wormtongue.

lord of the rings: the two towers on dvd!
I'm pleased to say that I found "The Two Towers", the follow-up to the first picture, to be mostly a phenomenal piece of cinema (once again, I have not read the books - I'm going simply on what I thought of the film).
"The Two Towers" story, split into several sections, also feels larger than the first film - there's more going on, there feels like even more at stake and the urgency and emotion that Jackson is able to give many events in the film is remarkable.
On November 18th, an extended edition DVD set for "The Two Towers" will be released that will include additional footage edited into the picture itself, as well as 2 additional discs worth of supplemental features.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Movie Review at Hollywood Video
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers literally does, joining three of the Fellowship of the Ring's protagonists — the dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and human Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) — as they sprint into the rolling hills of Rohan, a kingdom of noble cavalrymen.
In The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the second film in the trilogy, Jackson marshals his considerable filmmaking skills to evoke the mythic sweep and romantic grandeur of the ongoing battle between the forces of good and evil for possession of the magical ring.
Breathlessly staged and edited, the climatic siege of Helm's Deep is a technical marvel that brings LOTR: The Two Towers to its rousing conclusion and sets the stage for the final film, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

The Lord of the Ring: The Two Towers, the second film in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a splendid piece of fantasy action adventure filmmaking.
The Two Towers is all about good versus evil and people questioning if they got what it takes to accomplish such tasks as fighting and defeating the wicked Saruman and his multitude of grotesque warriors.
"Two Towers" is essentially three stories bridging the gap between the beginning and final confrontation with evil.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers Movie Review - MovieWeb
In The Two Towers, Gollum (aka Smeagol) takes center stage as he catches up with a rapidly weakening Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin), now separated from the rest of their party, and he becomes a guide for the hobbits in exchange for a promise that they won't kill him.
In fact, the bulk of the movie doesn't concern Frodo's journey at all, but rather the exhaustive preparation for war as Aragorn joins forces with Rohan to defend them against the 10,000-strong orc army being amassed by Saruman (Christopher Lee), in his attempt to wipe out man from the face of Middle-earth.
The timeline in the movie is completely out of whack, though for the sake of drama, it works more often than not.

Looking back, all the stuff with the two hobbits and the trees could have been excised altogether, and nobody would have gotten hurt (at least, from a narrative point of view).
In fact, much of the movie is essentially just the anticipation of the war, conversations about it, strategies and such, but very little real action.
I wanted to like this movie, I wanted it to transport me further into the world of these engaging characters, I wanted to be swept away into its epic proportions, but in the end, I wasn't pulled in, I wasn't surprised by much and I wasn't emotionally attached to anyone.

The miracle is that ''The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers'' is better: tighter, smarter, funnier, and graced with a more realized sense of epochs shifting on the actions of smallish individuals.
The main action in ''Towers'' centers on the kingdom of Rohan, which is being assaulted by the combined armies of Sauron and Saruman as a prelude to a full-on conquest of Middle-earth.
A final thought: ''Towers'' is a war film when all is said and done - one that's definitely not for children - and some will take that all the way to the metaphorical bank.

The stunning events of the third hour of The Two Towers are undoubtedly the centerpiece of the film, and while the first two hours serve finely as story development, they primarily build anticipation for the final hour, which mostly depicts the battle of Helm's Deep.
Perhaps The Two Towers' biggest fault is in its own accomplishments; the first two thirds of the film are well shot, well paced, and they necessarily and adequately progress the storyline, but when compared to the spectacular final hour, the first two hours seem uneventful and insignificant.
However, I believe that The Two Towers requires the type of score which Howard Shore accomplishes best: dark, continuous, and unrelenting, as demonstrated in Se7en and Silence of the Lambs.

The Two Towers themselves belong to each of The Lord of the Ring's principle villains -- the title character Sauron, bound in the form of a flaming eye, and the traitorous wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee) who has turned his back on the forces of light.
The Two Towers concerns itself mainly with the latter.
In the novel, Tolkien divided the action in two, centering the first half on Aragorn and the second on Frodo and Sam.
