The Ugly Little Boy (1992) (with Isaac Asimov)
For one thing, it's hard to imagine a nurse of the 21st Century, especially one who specializes in pediatric care, being as stuffy and uptight as Miss Fellowes (which is what she likes to be called, and even how she thinks of herself) after the increase in casualness we've seen in the last thirty years.
Second, while the frustration of anthropologists studying Neanderthal culture but only having a child to examine and question was mentioned, little serious effort was made to learn his language.

The Ugly Little Boy tells the story of a Neanderthal boy transported from the prehistoric tundra to the 21st century, where scientists begin to study him.
The boy teams up with a sympathetic nurse named Edith Fellowes (expected to be played by Moore), who then aids the boy in travelling back in time in search of his tribe.

Asimov wrote the short story "The Ugly Little Boy" in 1958.
But there is much more to the story of the little Neanderthal boy plucked out of time and transferred to the 21st century.
First of all, although the scientists knew very well that they were scooping a Neanderthal child from the past, Miss Fellowes was not told the child was not a modern human, not given the chance to study what is known of Neanderthal physiology and culture, and given only modern-style toys, clothes, and foods for him.

Miss Fellowes, who had been hired under very strict regulations to watch the prehistoric boy, had a kind of a sharp tongue and sometimes acted like a demented soccer mom, especially when nosey scientists and the media eagerly flocked over to gawk at the kid and make a big fuss over him.
The little boy named "Timmie" had turned out to be such a charming little angel in spite of his "unsightly" prehistoric appearance.
The Neanderthal story of where the child came from is pure silverberg, the future tale of where the boy ended up is a great deal like the original novella so it's pure Asimov.

Mention of names and keywords prompts me to share this piece of code I use for the medit_short command: it automatically derives the keywords from the short description, skipping probably unimportant numbers and puts them in keywords.
So, you just do "short the ugly little boy" and get "boy little ugly" as keywords in addition to setting the short description.
This is done in reverse order, since I assume the first keyword is the important one that can be used as a short-short description in certain places (e.g.

First published in Galaxy magazine in 1958, Isaac Asimov's short story "The Ugly Little Boy" is a science fiction classic.
Now, in the second collaboration between the late, great Isaac Asimov and award-winning author Robert Silverberg, we have The Ugly Little Boy, the novel, a remarkably moving and chilling tale of what happens when past and present collide.
And, when Miss Fellowes learns of the intended disposition of the "Timmie experiment," it is up to her to travel back through time with the "ape-boy" as he rejoins his tribe on the cutting edge of civilization.

Review of "The Ugly Little Boy"
Nurse Edith Fellowes cares for a very ugly little boy.
I would probably not rank it quite so high, but it is definitely among his best half-dozen, an unforgettable tear-jerker with a beautiful ending that doesn’t just tug at the heart-strings, it all but rips them out.
It’s one of Asimov’s stories turned into a novel by Robert Silverberg (see The Ugly Little Boy), but the novel isn’t nearly as good as the story.

"Reflections: A Postage Stamp For Isaac" by Robert Silverberg
If such a stamp were to be issued, we science-fictioneers would, of course, savor a reversion to archaic postal methods for at least a little while, for the sheer fun of seeing Isaac looking back up at us from the envelope that we’re about to mail.
We wouldn’t, of course, be communicating with each other that way, since we are all, by now, thoroughly enmeshed in the point-and-click e-mail world.
In such classic works as "The Ugly Little Boy" and "The Bicentennial Man" Isaac introduced a powerful note of compassion and pathos to such well-worn science fictional themes as robotics and time travel and gave them new emotional resonance.

The people who I have found most resistant to Shinran are those whose intellectual understanding of Buddha-dharma is a lot higher than their ability to maintain themselves in Buddhic clarity.

The catalyst for the surge in screen activity is that Asimov’s estate is now represented by Created By, a partnership created 1-1/2 years ago by Vince Gerardis and Ralph Vicinanza, who currently handle the screen rights of about 200 major sci-fi, fantasy and horror authors.
The Ugly Little Boy, the most recent deal, is a time-travel drama that would star Moore as a nurse, whose empty life is filled with an unusual patient, a Neanderthal boy brought forward in time, temporarily by scientists trying to discover what sparks human evolution.

Jenkins' Spoiler-Laden Guide to Isaac Asimov
I opted for two ratings because very often how a book is evaluated depends on how it is approached, and someone who reads the book primarily because it is by Asimov will evaluate it differently from someone who reads it because of the general class of book to which it belongs.
I don’t particularly care for them, and I don’t think they reveal anything particularly interesting about Asimov or his fictional universe—mainly because the bulk of the writing was done by his collaborator, Janet Asimov, and he did very little actual work on them.
The result is that I consistently rate them very low (around 0, in fact) so far as the Asimov fan is concerned.
