Deep Groove Encyclopedia - Undisputed Truth
Perhaps more so than any of their Motown contemporaries, the Undisputed Truth was an album act.
LPs such as Face to Face and The Undisputed Truth were loaded with extended psychedelic funk jams with plenty of experimentation in the mix.
The backing band for this record was an uncredited Rose Royce, and it appears their emergence spelled the end of the line for Undisputed Truth.

The Undisputed Truth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Undisputed Truth was a 1970s Motown recording act, assembled by record producer Norman Whitfield as a means for being able to experiment with his psychedelic soul production techniques.
Their single Top 40 hit in the United States was the ominous "Smiling Faces Sometimes", also originally recorded by The Temptations, which hit #3 on the US pop charts in 1971.
The Undisputed Truth, along with Rose Royce and Willie Hutch, followed Whitfield during his exodus from Motown to set up Whitfield Records in 1975.

Undisputed Truth: Smiling Faces: The Best of Undisputed Truth - PopMatters Music Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
A minor league vocal band in Motown's early- to mid-'70s lineup, Undisputed Truth was the mouthpiece for Norman Whitfield, perhaps the most ambitious and adventurous person working under Berry Gordy in the heyday of his label.
Undisputed Truth, being a late addition to Motown's roster, had no career to ruin, so Whitfield was given a free hand to pursue his experiments.
Undisputed Truth were an easier bunch to use as puppets since the pop audience had no cherished notions about their autonomy, and their solid but unexceptional talents as vocalists ensured that the focus would remain on Whitfield's trippy arrangements and production.

Modculture.com - The Collection by Undisputed Truth
A group that could have been one of Motown's most successful acts during the experimental late-60's/early-70's, was little more than a Norman Whitfield creation with the aim of trying out his new compositions and various experimental studio effects (such as wah-wah guitars, bizarre percussion sounds, sweeping strings and funky Psychedelic rhythms).
Needing another outlet, he assembled The Undisputed Truth and in doing so created a talented group that very much fitted the Motown bill at that time - socially conscious, experimental, funky and decked out in crazy outfits.
This collection brings together the 14 singles The Undisputed Truth released between 1971 and 1975, as well as the odd album track here and there.

This is nowhere near as thorough as 2002's "Essential Collection", but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as only die-hard fans would be interested in that much comprehensive material.
