The United States of America (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United States of America was a experimental rock and psychedelic band whose works are an example of early electronic music in rock and roll.
Like some other bands of that era, the USA was a band with a leftist political vision, demonstrated for example in "Love Song For The Dead Che", and this may have contributed to the regard in which it is held by some critics.
A band somewhat similar in structure and sound to USA, and obviously influenced by them, was the early 1970s British Progressive Rock outfit, Curved Air.

There is discussion currently occurring on the Rocky Mountains (United States of America) article, as to whether a different name for this region should be found.
My proposal is to call the region either "Mountain states," "Mountain West," or "Rocky Mountain States," in each case with the obvious (United States of America) extension, and then modify the existing article so that it is part of the Rocky Mountains hierarchy rather than describing a region of the US.

 * Dusted Reviews - The United States of America *
To be honest, I’m not quite sure of the United States of America LP’s competition in 1968, outside the first release from the Silver Apples, who have a lot in common with the USA in their combination of arty psych-rock and pulsing synthesizers.
The Silver Apples differed from the USA by recording more then one record — unfortunately the USA never were given the chance to build on or to betray the promise of their only album.
Besides its use of electronics, other noteworthy elements that set the band apart from its contemporaries include the conspicuous presence of a credibly rocking violin, the conspicuous absence of the electric guitar, and the fire-and-ice vocals of lead singer Dorothy Moskowitz, who recalls in equal measures Grace Slick and Nico.

On other church-state fronts, unlike the virtually united front presented by the Jewish community in opposing proposals for a constitutional amendment, the community was split with respect to the issues of vouchers and "charitable choice".
That law allows religious organizations to become state contractors for provision of block-granted, public-assistance programmes without, in the view of most Jewish groups, providing for the kind of safeguards necessary to ensure that direct-service providers are hired on a non-discriminatory basis, and that government funds are not used for sectarian purposes.

Initially dismissed as one-hit wonders, slammed as being a band grasping onto the last straws of a scene's glory, and accused of being the next unoriginal band in a long line of unoriginal Dickies rip-offs, the Presidents of the United States nonetheless took post-grunge America by storm.
Boasting an irritatingly catchy sound and a firm grasp on pop conventions the band, officially made up of Chris Ballew, Dave Dederer and Jason Finn, found their way into heavy radio and video rotation with two well-timed entries into the alternative rock scene.

The United States of America - Artist Area
Despite releasing only one LP, the United States of America was among the most revolutionary bands of the late '60s -- grounded equally in psychedelia and the avant-garde, their music eschewed guitars in favor of strings, keyboards and haunting electronics, predating the ambient pop of the modern era by several decades.
The United States of America was led by composer and keyboardist Joseph Byrd, a Kentucky native raised in Tucson, Arizona; there he appeared with a series of rock and country bands while attending high school, subsequently playing vibes in a jazz outfit as a student at the University of Arizona.
