Seoul is located in the northwest of the country, south of the DMZ, on the Han River.
Seoul was the host city of the 1988 Summer Olympics as well as one of the venues of the Football World Cup 2002.
Seoul has nine subway lines, nearly 200 bus routes and six major highways that interlink every district of the city with one another and with the neighbouring metropolitan area, which is the world's most populous.

The findings by a team of researchers led by Dr. Hwang Woo Suk of Seoul National University were presented to South Korean scientists and will be published in the U.S. journal Science.
Although cloning may be technically possible, the moral issues will be the great dilemma, said Arthur Kaplan, medical ethicist and director of the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Bioethics.
