No Way Out movie info - dvds
And by no means whatsoever is Kevin Costner one of my faverite actors and to me most of his films are dull and boring except for this one and THE UNTOUCHABLES.
No Way Out is a well-acted, well-scripted film with Costner at the heart of a scandal involving high-level government officials.

 Blow Out Movie Rewind «
Blow Out resides in my mind as De Palma's best work alongside 'Casualties of War', his seminal 1989 film about the Vietnam War, and 1987's 'The Untouchables' (yes, another De Palma climax at a train station).
Jack and Sally are the 'loose ends to be cut off when they close the book on this case', and they have to show the film to the world before anyone gets to them.
In its protagonist's relentless quest for the truth, Blow Out is more often than not, a representation of an American public who have suffered their famous scandals, and would sooner not be protected from the gory details of their 'private' wars and assasinations.

Sean Connery was awarded in 1987 by receiving the Academy Award (Oscar) for an Actor in a Supporting Role.
I believe that Connery deserved the Oscar; firstly because he had never one an Oscar before and secondly because his acting in the film is astonishing.
His craftsmanship as a director is tested during two crucial sequences; Ness's raid on a line of trucks crossing from Canada into the US with liquor; and the famed final confrontation between Ness and Capone's henchmen in Union Station.

NBC was interested in turning the film into a series, but neither Falk nor Levinson and Link wanted to do weekly episodic television at the time.
Since the late 1970s, Falk has continued to appear in feature films as well as reprise his Columbo character on television.
One of Falk's earliest roles was in The Untouchables, a series which launched a number of stars, including Robert Redford.

Like the TV series that shared the same title, The Untouchables (1987) was an account of the battle between gangster Al Capone and lawman Eliot Ness, this time in the form of a feature film boasting big stars, a big budget, and a script from respected playwright David Mamet.
The Untouchables will always be one of my favorite all-time gangster films for years to come!
The Prohibition-era reign of mob kingpin Al Capone is dramatized in The Untouchables, a colorful, stylishly violent drama graced with a superb script by David Mamet and flamboyantly directed by Brian De Palma (Scarface).

From a script by David Mamet, the film pits four underdog heroes (the maverick lawmen known as the Untouchables) against a singular villain in Al Capone, played by Robert De Niro as a dapper Caesar holding court (and a baseball bat) against any and all challengers.
That is the reason why from time to time I find some jewels that were released a long time ago, but that are totally new to me. “The untouchables” (1987) is, of course, one of such movies.
This film is set in Chicago, during the prohibition, a time were mobsters had enormously increased their influence due to the contraband of alcohol.

Whatever one's reservations about the film as a whole, The Untouchables remains marvellously exhilarating entertainment.
I still remember the thrill of anticipation I felt in 1987 upon first seeing the trailer for Brian De Palma's The Untouchables.
In The Untouchables the key emotional moments are delivered with as much power as the violent set-pieces and, in retrospect, it's that genuine rarity; a blockbuster with a brain, and even more refreshingly, a heart.

 The Making of THE UNTOUCHABLES
Opening on June 3, 1987, THE UNTOUCHABLES was everything its creators had hoped: a box office success admired by audiences and reviewers alike for breathing new life into the period gangster epic.
A similar devotion to craft was seen in a week of rehearsals, when it was determined that Connery would set the mood for the Untouchables' offbeat chemistry by assuming his role as the gruff mentor, both on- and off-stage.
But THE UNTOUCHABLES lets him show that he isn't just a brilliant sicko.

He received his first nomination for an Academy Award in 1979 for the score to Days of Heaven (Terrence Malick, 1978) and another in 1986 for The Mission, 1987 for The Untouchables (Brian De Palma, 1987), 1991 for Bugsy (Barry Levinson, 1991) and 2001 for Malèna (Giuseppe Tornatore, 2000).
However it is for his Western film scores that he is best known, and his sparse style of composition for the genre is particularly exemplified by the soundtrack for the classic film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Sergio Leone, 1966).
He composed over two dozen scores for the Italian Mafia TV series La Piovra.

In 1987 Mamet made an impressive directing debut with House of Games (from his own script), a story of con artists which starred his then-wife, Lindsay Crouse, and a host of longtime stage associates, including his acting alter ego, Joe Mantegna.

Mission Impossible - Nitrate Online Review
This is not to say that 1987’s, The Untouchables was less than entertaining, because it most assuredly was, but De Palma’s handling of the film fell under the category of necessary, but not sufficient.
Although much of the work done in the early part of his career was warmed-over Hitchcock or Antonioni, he was still able to take these remaindered elements and fashion them into a unique trashiness that was really fun to watch (his 1978 film, The Fury, is still one of my guiltiest of pleasures).
Likewise with the career of Brian De Palma, who used to be a risk-taker of sorts.

 Barnes & Noble.com - The Battleship Potemkin -- Sergei Eisenstein - DVD - Black & White
To Eisenstein, this single bloody incident was the crucible of the successful 1917 Bolshevik revolution, and the result was the "Odessa Steps sequence," which is often considered the most famous sequence ever filmed; it is certainly one of the most imitated, perhaps most overtly by Brian De Palma in The Untouchables (1987).
Eisenstein was one of the 20th century's foremost film theorists, and Potemkin is a vivid example of the power of his approach.
The centerpiece of his technique was montage, and Potemkin has enough separate shots and cuts for a dozen conventional narrative films, each designed to have a carefully calculated effect.

The History of Cinema. David Mamet: biography, reviews, links
Playwright David Mamet, who had just written DePalma's Untouchables/b> (1987), debuted in cinema with House of Games (1987), a stylish film noir that borrows the atmosphere from 1940s thrillers but is uniquely Mamet-ian thanks to a twisted script.
Mamet reaches the most pessimistic conclusion: not only Bobby has lost his identity, not only this has left him without "any" identity, but reality, that could help him recover it, is so ambigous that ultimately he feels powerless and pointless.
Winslow Boy (1999), adapted from the play by Terence Rattigan, and set in England at the beginning of the century, is an oddity in Mamet's career, a period piece steeped in Dickens-ian melodrama.
