Topic: The Valiant Five

The Valiant Five - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Famous Five or The Valiant Five were five Canadian women who, in 1927 asked the Supreme Court of Canada to answer the question, "Are women persons?" The case came to be known as the Persons Case.
The Valiant Five have also been commemorated with a statue on Canada's Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada and at the Olympic Plaza in Calgary, located in the women's home province of Alberta.
Moreover, the Five clearly did devote their energies to increasing women's participation on legislative bodies with greater power: Two became members of the Alberta Legislature and one a member of the House of Commons.

While the Valiant improved on the B-47 with a slightly heavier bomb load, higher ceiling, longer range and slightly smaller size, the B-47 was considerably faster (though the Valiant B.2 would have given it a run for its money) and, of course, several years ahead.
Accordingly, Valiants of 138, 148, 207 and 214 squadrons were deployed to RAF Luqa in Malta and the first Valiant attacks against Egyptian airfields began on 31st October.
Once BAC had finished with their four Valiants, they were stored for a while and then finally scrapped, though not before one of them, XD816, had taken part in the flypast on the 29th of April 1968 to mark the disbandment of RAF Bomber Command (which was now becoming Strike Command).

To go back for just a moment, among those who refused to accept the ‘person argument’ were five women who decided they would do whatever it took to change the law.
Shocked but refusing to give up the fight they took the ‘persons case’ to the Privy Council in England which in those days was Canada’s highest court and finally on October 18, 1929, Canadian women were acknowledged as persons in federal law and, therefore, could be appointed to the Senate.
Remember the Famous Five who went all the way to the Privy Council to ensure that women were considered as persons — that was vocal, that was a positive action, that was a denial of seeing women as victims — and ultimately it was successful.
