Anyway, THE VALLEY OF GWANGI is set in Mexico where a small traveling circus in the spirit of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show is performing.

The Valley of Gwangi was made in 1969, though was originally supposed to be made over thirty years earlier as a follow-up to King Kong.
There's also the film's own theatrical trailer and a brief retrospective entitled “Return to the Valley”, where various special effects artists and animators from the big effects houses today give their thoughts on the film and Harryhausen himself (who is also interviewed for the feature).
Gwangi will invariably be compared to Kong and One Million Years B.C., and although it doesn't quite reach the same heights of grandeur either of those titles, The Valley of Gwangi is still a classic in it's own right.

While The Valley of Gwangi can't really be remembered for its story (it's actually pretty standard stuff) or acting credentials (everyone is about as stiff as a treated oak plank), the one thing that will stick in viewers minds long after the movie is over is Ray Harryhausen's fantastic special effects.

The jaw-dropping sequence where the cowboys lasso and rope Gwangi is still state of the art, even after decades of advances in effects work.
On the down side, there are some cuts between stop-motion creatures and their practical equivalents that unfortunately reveals the differences between them; more care should have gone into the matching, especially on the pterodactyl bulldogging sequence.

However, this 1969 opus from co-producer and stop-motion master Ray Harryhausen suffers from a familiar problem: as in his other Giant Creature features, from The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms to Mysterious Island, the special-effects work is better than the rest of the movie.
