The Beatles (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
With this album, each of the four band members began to showcase the range and depth of their own individual songwriting talents and styles that would be carried over to their eventual solo careers.
The album was produced and orchestrated by George Martin, and was the first album released by Apple Records, and the only original double album released by the Beatles.
The album's inside packaging included a poster, the lyrics to the songs, and a set of photographs taken by John Kelley in Autumn of 1968 that have themselves become classic.

The White Stripes: Album Reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Which is of course the point; The White Stripes is music as art (their visual appearance is also an important component of this), breaking down rock and blues to their barest essentials and reconfiguring them, and Meg’s extremely simplified technique is a crucial part of the aesthetic.
White Blood Cells was The White Stripes breakthrough effort; 2001 was the year of the garage rock revival, and with their stripped down sound and aggressive delivery, The White Stripes were among the flag bearers of the genre.
The detractors are justified to some extent; as much as Jack White is a charismatic figure, there’s a limit to how far the group’s formula will stretch, and while all of their albums are at least good I wouldn’t recommend owning all four unless you want to burn yourself out on them.

 Phish.Net FAQ: The White Album
Basic I.D.: The White Album (aka The White Tape; also labelled Phish and simply "demo") is a collection (actually, two collections) of Phish material used as a demo/sample tape for clubs etc. It was never officially released, but circulates through trading circles.
Title dispute: There is no official name, though phans have referred to it (them) as The White Album since at least 1988 (in allusion to the officially unnamed album by the Beatles).
Throughout 1996, there was a shift/movement to call the collection The White Tape rather than The White Album, partly because it was and always has been in fact a tape and not an album; and also because there was increasing confusion with 10/31/94 II, during which Phish covered the Beatles' White Album in its entirety.

For some, particularly fans of the seamless Pepper, this makes for a frustratingly scattershot record, but for other listeners, the White Album is a singularly gripping musical experience.
Perhaps this is because each member was so possessive of their own musical ideas that they wanted to devote all their energies to their own track -- it's certainly the reason why the record became a double album, simply because no one had the desire to sort through the material to craft a single record.
Then again, the White Album needs to spread out, it needs to have its loose ends and detours, because what is interesting about the album is its sprawl.

Jeff White - The White Album
This may not be the magnum opus that the Beatles' White Album was, but Jeff White has assembled a powerhouse cast to put a lot of great music in one place.
White is a talented singer and guitar player, and his version of The White Album has an unexpectedly traditional and old-timey flavor, given that White currently plays with reigning country music king Vince Gill and is an alumnus of Alison Krauss and Union Station.
White shows he can sing just about any type of song, ranging from the lovely waltz I Never Know, where he's joined by Gill and Krauss on a stunning trio, to his own Little Lies, straight bluegrass with the blues intact.

The most unusual piece on the album is not a song at all; it's "Revolution #9," which, when I heard it as a teenager (only about thirty years ago; not long, really) I thought was just too strange, and I couldn't appreciate it.
The White Album is by far the most unusual Beatles album of all, but it also covers the widest artistic territory.

Individually, I love almost all of the songs on the White album, but as an entire album it feels kind of disjointed to me. Of course there are some brilliant sequences -- Long Long Long, Sexy Sadie and Helter Skelter somehow form this awesome trio of songs, IMVHO.
That may also be why Rubber Soul is my favorite Beatles album; they've started to progress into more complex songwriting, but they haven't yet begun to feud with each other or go their own musical ways.
Of course, it can't be repeated enough that all their albums are really good and saying one is better than the others is in no way a denigration of other albums.
