  Wild Blue Yonder
In 1972, back in the mythological mists of the 20th century, a band of marginalized progressive musicians calling themselves the "Wild Blue Yonder" were working low paying gigs in Fresno and on the central coast.
She was a woman who took on city hall over parking restrictions placed on the club and won, a stalwart individual, tough as a boiled owl, Lauren's pragmatic and sometimes ferocious approach to the appearance of insoluble problems gave added credence to her title as manager.
Club Wild Blue, the church of the pagan dirt Buddha, gave largess to not only local and regional musicians, but also became a forum for poets, painters, sculptors, belly dancers, playwrights, and performance artists.

The Wild Blue Yonder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wild Blue Yonder is a science fiction documentary film by the German director Werner Herzog, released in 2005.
The scientists falsely believed that they had contracted an infectious alien disease from the debris, and an exploratory mission was launched to Blue Yonder (represented with archival footage from STS-34 and Henry Kaiser's diving expedition in Antarctica) in order that a new, uninfected human colony might be created there.
After deciding Blue Yonder was suitable for human habitation, the astronauts returned home to Earth 800 years later only to discover that the planet had been abandoned in their absence.

Dourif appears on-camera frequently in The Wild Blue Yonder, standing in the middle of a California ghost town and telling the audience that he's one of a pack of alien explorers who came to Earth eons ago, after they spoiled their own world.
The Wild Blue Yonder has a small message to deliver about the importance of ecological conservation, but mostly, it's an excuse to cut together mesmerizing undersea and outer-space photography while a hypnotic soundtrack drones on.
Really, the Dourif parts—marred as they are by wild overacting and the distracting scrape of his feet on the dirt—get in the way of what's primarily a sublime mood piece.

For many viewers, The Wild Blue Yonder will seem disjointed or dull, but for someone receptive to a less plot-driven experience, the combination of striking visual images (the footage from under the ice cap is stunningly eerie), intriguing speculative ideas, and unearthly music (from avant-garde cellist Ernst Reijsiger) creates a unique and memorable experience.
I'm in two minds whether this indicates a lack of creative imagination on Herzog's part (after all "Wild Blue Yonder" is a rehash of the original narrative of "Fata Morgana") or whether it shows Herzog's prophetic intelligence in using a variety of digital media to create his vision.
Wild Blue Yonder is neither strictly a fictional feature nor a documentary, but a peculiar hybrid of both, that makes creative use of "found" NASA footage combined with the narration of Brad Dourif (Deadwood) to create a surreal and beautiful science fiction fantasy.

An Unidentified Cinema Object landed yesterday on the Lido, unleashing the admiration of the international press: the docu-film The Wild Blue Yonder in the running for a prize in the Horizons section.
Its pilot, the famous German director makes this film a veritable "trip" without breaking the narrative line (the history of the world reviewed by an alien) as passionate as it is hilarious.
"Germany's Werner Herzog came up with the festival's most original film, The Wild Blue Yonder, in which he uses found footage of the astronauts aboard a space shuttle flight and documentary images of underwater exploration in the Arctic to weave a sci-fi fantasy about aliens on Earth.

The STS-34 space mission was sent to find potential locations for the human race to survive and the one suitable planet that was found happened to be the dying planet Wild Blue Yonder, the alien's home planet.
Scientists diving in waters under a frozen surface (repurposed as astronauts exploring the liquid helium atmosphere of Wild Blue Yonder) comprise the film’s latter part and will undoubtedly transport you into a new perspective, no matter how improbable the plot may be.
But it’s hard to remain stimulated by Herzog’s beautiful imagery when scenes of divers swimming and astronauts floating last for 15 minute intervals, which are often wordless and interminable.
