  BJ: The Wind from Nowhere
Savour it as a relic from the time when Ballard was new and fresh, and when it wasn't apparently in the contract that no copy editor should come within a mile of a Ballard manuscript.
This guy is seriously screwed — his idea of fun is to play the sound of the wind, transmitted live from outside the pyramid, into his office so that he can face the elements in the comfort and safety of his own home, as it were.
Then when the wind has done its cleansing work, it dies down and you can believe that things can start over in a better way.

It's amazing how much harder you can make yourself work when the wind is at your back and you are doing 28 mph like it was nothing, but when it is at your front and you are struggling to keep 15, you just want to quit, and it lessens the quality of your ride.
What DOES really piss me off is when the wind is gusting because as soon as you get into the right gear the wind picks up and forces you to shift, then dies down and you have to shift again...etc. This greatly reduces efficiency and usually lowers my average by 2 mph.
The first night the wind was really strong and I was actually forced to stop for breath for a few minutes once I'd cleared the steepest part of the ascent.

For better or worse, Gone With The Wind is one of the most American films ever made, in every respect, from the sense of bigness to the need to invent and improve to the complex and confounding cultural messages.
Gone With The Wind was shot using three-strip Technicolor, a camera technology that used three different film strips to capture the red, blue and green portion of the spectrum separately.

The Wind From Nowhere - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wind from Nowhere (1961, ISBN 014002591X) is the debut novel by J.G. Ballard, although he has since tended to disown the book.
The novel was the first of a series of Ballard novels dealing with scenarios of 'natural disaster', in this case seeing civilization reduced to ruins by prolonged worldwide hurricane force winds.
As an added, and interesting, dimension Ballard explores the ways in which disaster and tragedy can bond people together in ways that no normal experiences ever could.

 J. G. Ballard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He wrote his first novel, The Wind from Nowhere, over a two-week holiday simply to gain a foothold as a professional writer, not as a "serious novel".
When it was successfully published in January of 1962, he quit his job at Chemistry and Industry, and from then on supported himself and his family as a writer.
Several of Ballard's earlier works deal with scenarios of 'natural disaster'; most notably a quartet thematically based on the four Classical Elements of Aristotle, featuring The Wind From Nowhere (Air), The Drowned World (Water), The Crystal World (Earth), and The Drought (Fire).

Ballards thematic and stylistic overhaul of the science fiction genre set the precedent for the emerging strain of science-fiction writing called “New Wave Speculative Fiction” (1962-78) which was to hit both sides of the Atlantic in the 1960s and in which Ballard was a prominent British voice.
A conventional piece of disaster fiction, The Wind from Nowhere was, on the author's admission, a piece of hackwork which allowed him to make the transition to becoming a full-time writer.
The Wind from Nowhere, The Drowned World, The Drought and The Crystal World, which are often referred to as the “Global Disaster Quartet”, meditate upon the physical and psychological metamorphoses of man in the face of environmental apocalypse.
