Feminism, Film, Fascism: Women's Auto/Biographical Film in Postwar Germany:Linville, Susan E.:0292746970:eCampus.com
After a broad survey of feminist theory, Linville analyzes five important films that reflect back on the Third Reich through the experiences of women of different ages - Marianne Rosenbaum's Peppermint Peace, Helma Sanders-Brahms's Germany, Pale Mother, Jutta Bruckner's Hunger Years, Margarethe von Trotta's Marianne and Juliane, and Jeanine Meerapfel's Malou.
In this study, Susan Linville challenges the accepted wisdom of these books by focusing on a cultural realm in which mourning for the Nazi past and opposing the patriarchal and authoritarian nature of postwar German culture are central concerns - namely, women's feminist auto/biographical films of the 1970s and 1980s.
By juxtaposing these films with the accepted theories on German culture, Linville offers a fresh appraisal not only of the films' importance but especially of their challenge to misogynist interpretations of the German failure to grieve for the horrors of its Nazi past.

The film explores some interesting issues, in particular the subculture of "feeders" and "gainers"—men who get off on feeding women huge amounts of food until they become so large that they are immobile and require constant care.
The film asks why women who are not thin and white are seen as a fetish, and encourages viewers to think about what it means when sexual desire clashes with what is "politically correct."
The Second Sex Worker Film and Video Festival, held May 25–27, brought together bad girls (and a few bad boys) and their admirers for a cultural event that was nothing if not well-rounded.

My presentation, titled "Finding Feminism in Belle Epoque Women's Novels" focused on four women writers from the time period, one of whom is well-known (Colette) and three of whom have become forgotten over the past 100 years.
I argue that one of the reasons that they have lost their appeal over the years is due to the changing definitions of what is considered "feminist." Critics such as Simone de Beauvoir dismissed these women writers as outdated and anti-feminist.

Lecture: Week 5: Women, The Bible and Film
This lecture discusses the correlation between images and treatment of women in the Bible and contemporary film and explores the usefulness of the feminist 'hermeneutic of suspicion' approach to the bible for studying film.
The same contradictions are continually manifested in cultural representations of women - from sacred texts, through fairy and folk tales and more recently in the tabloid press and film.
I am suggesting that her proposals and methodology can be equally applied to filmic texts especially in the respect that the bible is such a powerful influence underpinning the representation of women in films.

 Feminist Film Theory
Alternatives to psychoanalytic feminist film theory raise new questions about the representation of women in films because of their different accounts of the self, agency, identity, and the cultural surroundings of the subject.
Feminist film theory however is often universalizing, and it makes use of complex language and alienating categories which deny women's experiences as active spectators enjoying films or reading them critically.
Added to this theory by Laura Mulvey's now-classic essay, "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema" [Mulvey, 1975], was the feminist claim that men and women are differentially positioned by cinema: men as subjects identifying with agents who drive the film's narrative forward, women as objects for masculine desire and fetishistic gazing.

 Metaphilm - Mystic River
Mystic River is a film that should have been made before the days when women had the right to vote, before they had entered the workforce, and before they had the ability to leave abusive husbands.
At the end of the film she is seen as a bubbling wreck, left with nothing but the knowledge that she will pay every day of her life for her supposed sins—a punishment sufficiently harsh to send a message to the women in the audience: Betray your husband and bad things will happen to you.
Mystic River is a film made by men and intended for women; if there’s one film an abusive husband would show his battered wife, it’s this one.
