Topic: The Works (Nik Kershaw album)

Nik Kershaw - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nik Kershaw is a UK singer-songwriter, popular during the 1980s.
Kershaw, who was married to long-time love and backing singer Sheri, then released a single called "The Riddle", which would send fans, journalists and linguists into overdrive, as each tried to establish what the meaning was behind the strange set of circumstances and clues which Kershaw put in the verses and chorus.
In the 2000s, the onset for 1980s nostalgia brought Kershaw back into the public eye to discuss the heights of his career and it was at this point that he revealed that "The Riddle" meant, in fact, nothing.

Kershaw left school in 1976 and worked as a shop assisstant and in the Department of Employment for several years, playing in a jazz-funk outfit, called Fusion, in the evenings.
Kershaw goes on to relate that it didn't actually work out that way, and that writing for somebody else was, really and truly, a totally different kettle of fish.
The promise of the song 'Elisabeths's Eyes' is realised on an album that is intrinsically Nik Kershaw, but a more mature, self-analytical Kershaw; a man who is writing the songs that, as he says himself, he fekt unable to write during the eighties, for fear of being labelled 'self-indulgent'.

His music has changed quite drastically since 1989 when his ill-fated "The Works" album was released and his synthesisers have been thrown out the window in favour of a more acoustic sound.
This single also features an acoustic version of Wouldn't it Be Good, one of Nik Kershaw's most popular songs of the 80s, and it's interesting to see that his voice has hardly changed in the 15 odd years since the original came out.
This single shows that Nik Kershaw is still fresh after 10 years of absence from writing his own music and if he can continue with tracks like this, he might prove that his 15 minutes of fame aren't over yet.
